Baer takes a beating. Baer too sloppy and slow. Wont find Tommy's chin with the one that counts.

    Baer would knock him out.

Another thread about them? Baer by KO, nothing changes.

I'm surprised you picked Max to beat a modern day heavyweight

Tommy was faster, had much better skill, he did hit as hard if not harder and was heavier and probably stronger. Baer could land a ko punch yes but the reverse could happen too.

I'll take Morrison. His big let down was his chin and his stamina. But he had skills and could hit like a truck. He could also put up a pretty decent defence if he had to. Baer was a physical phenomenon in his day and relied on his cliff-like chin as defence. Unfortunately his boxing skills are woeful for the highest levels and he wasn't hard to hit. What that says to me is that Tommy is going to unload hellfire on his ass and my guess is that Baer won't be able to take it.

My problem with this statement is that Baer fought a lot of powerful punchers (many bigger than him) and he was stopped only by Joe Louis (who, let's be honest, was far better than Morrison) and Lou Nova in his last fight (first stoppage was due to injury). Of course Morrison was powerful enough to stop anyone, but I wouldn't bet on someone without stamina to stop Baer.

How many rounds? 12 or under, I'll take Morrison. 15 or more I'll take Baer.

We have a big difference here in speed, accuracy and skills.

Morrison if not focused had defensive lapses and could punch himself out.

Baer if not motivated wasn't very good.

Best guess is Baer who didn't have a deployable jab or much defense would take too many punches, and become less dangerous because of it. Morrison would not have much left in the final rounds but has enough footwork to last the distance and win on points. The final bell could not ring soon enough for Morrison.

The only puncher that I'd say was a bigger hitter than Tommy was Joe Louis, and even then you could debate whether it was Louis' excellent combination punching skills that did the job or one-shot power. Louis disintegrated Baer. I guess that the obvious counterpoint to this view is pointing out that Mercer pretty much beat Tommy with his chin.

On the other hand, Mercer was a better boxer and more defensively responsible than Baer, who literally dared his opponents to unload. I can't imagine anybody letting Morrison get free shots on their chin and remaining intact.

I'm not terribly high on Baer as you might tell, least of all when fighting bigger, more skilled guys than him. Still, you never know. Baer had an undeniably crushing punch himself, and in a firefight it could be that he crunches Tommy first. I doubt it, but there's a reasonable possibility of it.

All of this is true, but Morrison was dropped twice by green Purity, old Williams, and demolished by Bentt. I'm sure if Baer lands, (and his certainly more able to do so than those guys) Morrison sleeps. He had the chin of a 12 year old girl.

I think this is a war, and I normally go for the guy with the better chin in those.

Max fought some very powerful hitters though. Besides obvious Louis, he faced Schmeling, Nova, Galento, Comiskey and a lot of big bangers like Artur De Kuh or Hank Hankinson (both were at least as big as Baer). Not saying that all of these fighters hit harder than Morrison but you have to keep in mind how sturdy Maxie chin was. Louis himself said that it was unbelievable how many clean punches he ate.

Yeah, Morrison never beat someone as dangerous as Baer who had comparably good chin and overall durability. On top of that Baer has clear stamina advantage.
