Caesars Palace 12 rounds Spinks, the clever , awkward boxer with superb timing and movement. Morrison , the younger, stronger puncher with a killer left hook. Who's getting the W ?
I think Tommy comes out quick and chins Mike. Spinks is a much, much better fighter but styles/fights and I'm not sure he has the power or strength to prevent the massive upset of Morrison KO2...
Mike would find a way. Just a way better boxer. Cooler head. And enough dynamite in that right hand to end Tommy's night.
My longtime theory that most people don't even understand what they watched in Spinks VS Tyson and they never will is still my theory. I doubt anything said on this thread will change this theory. Unless I am paid off handsomely. Because all theories have their price.
Oh, George, I believe this new dimension that you've added to the discussion might be a can of worms you're not ready to put on your dinnerplate.
Outside of a freak puncher's chance, I don't see Spinks making it to the final round, let alone winning. Not because Spinks can't outbox Tommy (he absolutely would if they were the same size), but because I cannot in good faith argue that Spinks pulls a Holmes vs Shavers 1 putting on a clinic out boxing the harder hitting man who could easily bulldoze him if he lands enough heavy shots. I cannot remove the image of Tyson practically decapitating poor Spinks, and Tommy being even less cautious and more eager for the KO than Tyson could ironically lead to another fast KO. Even if it takes Tommy 2 rounds, 3, or 5, at some point a bludgeoning hook to the body or head drops Spinks, and then it's all over once Tommy goes for the finish.
Michael Spinks had the better skills and the snap in his right hand to hurt Morrison. He was also a proven 15 round fighter. The caveat here however is that Spinks was a slow starter and Morrison was dangerous in the early rounds with lots of power behind his shots. And while Michael’s chin held up fine at 175 I’m not sure what its limits were at heavyweight. I’m still leaning ever so slightly towards Spinks to win this but not with much certainty.
Gerry Cooney has a left hook, but a better chin than Morrison. Jynx would have to mess up badly to lose. Spinks only loss was...
But to be fair my friend, by the time Cooney fought Spinks he was Hardly fighting and he was drinking. But your point stands, and I think Spinks could do this.
