Tommy Morrison vs Micheal Grant

I like Grant even though most will likely pick Morrison. I remember watching his battle with Golata many years ago and Michael showed a lot of heart and took a lot of big shots to win that one. He also beat down some tough guys in Ross Purity, Gonzalez and a few others who were big hitters and rough around the edges. At 6'7", 250 lbs Grant would have given Morrison a lot of size to contend with and Tommy didn't have the style or reach that Lewis had to dispose of grant early

 

Morrison does well, maybe even scores the knockdown or two. But Grant showed some decent survival skills and Morrison always dropped the ball. Morrison at some point walks into a bomb and never recovers.


McCline knocks both out in the same night, than clowns Briggs, hits the shower, and has a snack.

 

I'd say that's pretty crazy indeed. Ruddock had only fought once in the previous two and half years, and looking like **** at decisioning a journeyman. He was wrecked after the Lewis and Tyson fights. He showed up for Morrison at was then a career high weight for him and despite all this put tommy on the canvas and later fell victim to what I thought was a premature stoppage. Grant wasn't the fighter that a prime Ruddock was, but he was certainly better than THAT version of Razor, also having a fair amount of additional size to boot.

 

I like Grant here, Tommy could hit but in a battle of the shaky chins I think Grant could utilize his size and hold up better than Dukey

 

Ruddock and King ended up in a legal dispute from 92-95 or something like that, which kept him out of action. The Wade fight was all he managed in that time.

For starters, King -- a cottage industry for the legal profession -- announced he had sued the heavyweight contender Donovan (Razor) Ruddock because, King said, Ruddock had breached a promotional contract with him.

 

Tommy by KO in 6. The only thing that could have troubled The Duke would have been Grant's size, but again, everyone has trouble with a bigger man.

 

Grant would have crushed Morison whose only chance might be winning 1 fight in a 6 fights series while getting stopped in 4 of them and losing a decision in another.
Grant was a serious contender whom Lewis cheat against in order to get a "W" against.
Both McCline and Guinn are underrated.
Grant won more than once against dangerous opponents around his own size (Corey Sanders, Tye Fields, Lou Savaresse, Jorge Luis Gonzalez) and not a few other dangerous contenders (Golota, Puritty, Ahmed Abdin, Al Cole, David Izon, Obed Sullivan ) and also against Jeff Wooden and Lionel Butler.
Grant's record may be a top 20 heavyweight record of all times and if one pairs it with his size and physique, one has to wonder about the source of the disrespect he gets in these supposedly experts' forums .

 

There's two ways I see the fight likely going. Either way I see Morrison getting Grant in trouble in the early rounds likely knocking him down once or twice and possibly finishing him. If Morrison isn't able to finish him I see Morrison tiring and Grant coming back and scoring a knockout of his own. I guess Morrison always has a punchers chance as he proved when he fought Joe Hipp but pretty much I favor Morrison should he end the fight in the early rounds and favor Grant if the fight goes beyond 4. I'm pretty much 50/50 on this one.

 

Morrison was the better fighter. He was faster, punched better, and Grant's defense was so-so. I think Grant simply was too slow to win. BUT, Morrison was just chinny enough and had just enough condition issues that you couldn't be overconfident about picking him against any top heavyweight. But if he was good enough to beat Ruddock he's probably good enough to beat Grant.

 

I was suspect of both fighters on there rise up the rankings. Both were proven to have weak chins. Morrison is faster with the hands and more powerful. I would take Morrison by knockout, but it really depends who lands 1st and if it goes into the later rounds.

 

Morrison would have destroyed Grant.

 

Morrison KO 5. It'll play out like the the Ruddock fight. Tommy will go down a couple of times from shots, get up and connect with a huge left hook putting Grant down and if he beats the count Morrison finishes him off.
