I agree about Marciano's training and the fact he was an attrition guy. However, Tua, when in shape, was no tub of goo. He was just a really large guy. And his fitness was proven with the pace he maintained versus Ibeabuchi.

david tua was maybe shorter but he was much bigger framed than marciano, much more robust, stronger and harder puncher, he was in perfect shape at 220 pounds . marciano wa sin perfect shape at 185 pounds, he was a much smaller man and he was a pig at 200 pounds, please it is ridiculous... and tua would have bombed out marciano h2h. done snot matter a crap the training, if you are big framed you are big.. if you are smaller you are smaller does not matter if you trained like mad or not. many people here are biased like hell, this forum is getting worse, much worse.

With Marciano's training Tua would still have been around 215. He was a huge ****ing dude. I have never seen Marciano live as he was dead before I was born. But from pictures he appears to have a much smaller frame than Tua.

No, Marciano would win this with the benefits of modern sports science, without the benefits of modern sports science, taking the fight at short notice, standing on his head if need be.

    Morrison simply wasn't that good.

    @ Mr. Magoo

"I believe that was Yuri Vaulin. I saw that fight and vividly remember watching Vaulin as a prospect. He was nothing special to say the least, and yes he had morrison outboxed for part of the five rounds they fough.. Enough so to the point where Morrison resorted to hitting below the belt.. Tommy was not world class."

I think there were aspects of Morrison that were world class. His left hook certainly was, and I think he could string punches together as well as anyone in his era, save perhaps for one or two.

But all things considered I agree...there were too many weaknesse to Morrison's game. He was upset or almost upset too many times by fairly ordinary fighters, the Vaulin and Bennt fights being very good examples.

I'm in two minds about this matchup though, for the simple reason that you have a jeep going head to head with a truck.
Rocky relied on out-manning and out-muscling his opposition. He would have his hands full with a substantially larger Morrison (hopefully) showing up in peak condition, and he would definitely have to make sure not to get caught with Morrison's booming left too much.

I'll say this: if Marciano makes it past the first three rounds, the fight is his. No question. Morrison was a front-runner who faded pretty quickly after a strong start.
    Marciano was the opposite.
But for me those first three rounds would be damn ticklish for Marciano.

PS-quote function seems to be broken, at least for me.

seamus, Tua turned pro at a fleshy 201lb. Marciano Turned pro 190- 192lb but became lighter to compete with the faster lighter box fighters who were dominating the heavyweight division at that time.

If Tua turned pro training in the 1990s at 201lb what would David have weighed in 1947?

Tua was 19 when he turned pro, Rocky was mid 20's... Huge difference. Again, I saw Tua spar on two occasions, shook his hand,... He was a big ****ing dude, much, much bigger than Marciano looks in pictures. Tua was also bigger than Tyson who I had watched in NYC a couple years before.

And if you think Tua was a fat tub, please to explain how he threw 765 punches over 12 rounds against a giant ass , insanely active opponent while weighing 226

Yes, those south pacific islanders are naturally small, weak people who need "help" putting on muscle mass...

So have the mods also taken away our ability to directly quote each other too? This forum is really beginning to suck balls.

    This ****er is small now?

I've seen him drive a mini (he lives about 10 minutes from me). That is not a small man.

He may be short, but he's a typical Samoan. ****ing huge proportions, but he is one of the shorter one.

He'd weigh 180 if you cut his lower torso off maybe. Goodness me.

david tua v ron humes is on you tube. All 201lb of him! Sure Tua was big boned but he was not skin and bone at 91kg in the amateurs either.

Tua could have maintained that weight for his career and became a big man in retirement like fighters usually do. In another era he almost certainly would have. Big boned, big framed or not.

Natural 227lb heavyweights dont weigh 91kg as amatuers.
