Briggs was beaten by the following: Darroll Wilson (easily) 49 y.o. George Foreman (got the undeserved decision) Lennox Lewis (easily) Botha (Botha was blatantly robbed, like Foreman) Cedric Fields (8-8 at the time) Jameel McCline (easily schooled by Jameel) I've named only fights close to Briggs' prime years, not mentioning his fights vs Vitali or Ibragimov. That's how good Briggs was
Morrison was a better fighter, but he was a real glass cannon. I'd hand it to Briggs based on he can give it almost as well but take it alot better.
He was way out of shape for fields and McCline. Probably would’ve lost to McClind regardless. The Botha fight was close but he probably deserved to lose by a point or two. Botha was saved by the bell in one of those rounds. If you don’t deduct points from Briggs for being out of breath against Foreman and award George points because everyone loves him, it could’ve gone either way based on clean punching.
It's a tough one but I'd have to back Morrison, if forced to bet. He was just the better fighter. I know Briggs has the capability to end it, if he connects but, Morrison had a game-changing punch too, which I am not all that sure Briggs could avoid. I think it more likely that Morrison would land it with sufficient regularity, to close the show.
On paper a Morrison vs Mercer fight. However this time Morrison doesn't succumb to Briggs punches. Turns out more like the Joe Hipp fight. Heavy physical damage to both fighters with Morrison edging Briggs in a fight of attrition.
Either pick at the start would make sense, until someone landed a bomb and then says " I told you so " Morrison was a bit quicker so I'd go with him.
This fight is really a total toss-up. You have two good punchers who can do a bit of boxing as well, Briggs probably has the better stamina. Either man could get knocked out from a powerful, clean shot.
