Actually, Tommy is misunderstood in many ways. I knew him fairly well and visited him at his 'private' underground gym in KC. The truth is, he came off as an intelligent and decent guy, and he was very knowledgeable (he gave me an impromptu evaluation on the HW division years ago that was amazing). IMHO, the problem with Tommy was his celebrity status after the Rocky movie role. I saw with my own eyes how the girls would throw themselves at him wherever he went. He had a different one each night. Personally speaking, I would not have been able to resist the temptation either. Although I never saw it, apparently alcohol played a big part in his downfall as well as his HIV status. I know he had a somewhat troubled childhood as well and it seemed that he had some demons in his past (so to speak). The fact of the matter is he's totally done in boxing. He's not even a shell of himself anymore. Sad actually.
Yes it is odd that he won that last (ahem) match he had, and has since dropped outta sight. I recall he was on the calll in radio show, The Grind, and was all about promoting himself and how he was out to shake up the division................went on to win that *match*, then .........poof! :huh
