There were quality wins on Tommie's resume, Ruddock immediately comes to mind. I think Tommy is faster than Moorer. Who gets to who's chin first? and who fails to get up last.
Those men were far too over the hill to be compared to a prime Michael Moorer, and two of them very nearly beat Morrison.
Ruddock had one fight against a journeyman in two and a half years going into the Morrison fight and showed up at a career high weight besides. He still managed to deck Tommy and may even have fallen victim to a premature stoppage by the ref. I wouldn't exactly chalk this one up as being a resume builder.
Morrison has more power than Moorer for sure. I agree it will all depend on who strikes first. This is a classic fight between 2 chinny fighters.
This is a real 50/50 fight. If they fought 10 times each might win 5. Prime vs prime, I go with Moorer due to the way he threw straighter, more compact punches.
I think Michael Moorer is all too often written off as being "chinny." I'll agree that his chin wasn't made of granite, but pure glass? Nah... He was only stopped three times in nearly 60 fights - all three of which were to world class fighters and one of them coming when he was past prime.. He also survived the artillery of Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart and James Smith.. Again, not exactly a solid chin but this **** about him not being able to take a shot is being overstated to say the least. Especially for a guy who didn't even begin as a heavyweight.
I pick Morrison without hesitation too quick to powerful And he had more Heart, than Moorer.. Remember the Moorer Bert Cooper fight, well Morrison was a lot more powerful and dangerous, he wouldn't have let Moorer off the hook like Cooper did..
Moorer is grossly overrated on this forum. He was a fine, powerful lightheavy, but as a heavyweight, you must remember, he couldn't take a punch worth a damn. TommyMorrison? He didn't have the best chin in this world either, but it was better than Moorer's, and in a battle between the two, Morrison would have found MM's chin like Tua did, and the result would have been the same. Morrison ko's Moorer...sparks him as a matter of fact.
Well the only difference there is that one of them ran from George all night long while the other was foolish enough to stand right in front of him.. Don't think it had anything to do with one's chin being better than the other though.
1-4, stopped 3 times over his previous 5. 3-3-1 over his previous 7 fights. 1-4 over his previous 5 Had fought once in 3 years.
I'd lean towards Moorer in this fight. A prime Morrison had trouble with a badly washed-up Carl Williams and also with Joe Hipp. Moorer had his rough spots too, and granted he lost to Foreman whereas Morrison beat him, but overall I think Moorer has advantages of style and skill.
Morrison had some great attributes and some poor ones. But above all else he was a deadly puncher with good hand speed capable of upsetting the best on any given night, or losing to a good journeyman if his stamina or chin fails him. His best wins were Ruddock, and Foreman. I think he would be the 3rd best in the world if he was in his prime today, behind Wlad and Povetkin. I also think he would annihilate Wilder or Fury. PS: Check out his son Trey Lippe Morrison. He has his dad's power and speed, and has recently incorporated defense into his game. A prospect to watch for sure.
