arguably one of the hardest hitters ever. my question is: could jake lamotta have taken the hit mans best shots and keep coming? not asking whos winning the fight just wanting to know if jakes granite chin could hold up to the hit mans power?

well ive seen some footage of lamotta and actually saw him hit pretty hard. actually in the hayes or hairston fight he gets hit with a right hand very hard right down the pipe and it turned him around a little and he kept coming. on srr vs lamotta IV on radio broadcast in round four don dunphy states "thats as a hard a right hand as ive ever seen robinson throw and lamotta took it without a blink of his eye" so could he take a hard right from the hit man?

I'm no one to judge if he was really hot or not, shommel. But I don't see what that has to do with the question anyway.

I think it's safe to say that if you can take all that Robinson has to give over 6 fights then you should be able to take Tommy's shots.

I dont' think it's out of the question. Hard to tell but you can tell his punches had the same concussive force. Sometimes I think Hearns was closer to SRR in some ways than SRL was, and his long lanky punching especially reminds me of Robinson.

...But Jake was a guy that struggled to make Middleweight, height not entering into it. His actual natural frame was not that of a former lightweight champion and former welterweight champion. Not at all relevant, imo.

the conditioning of the fighters from back then and today are like night and day, jake was 5 foot nothing had srawny biceps and you expect him to compete against a guy like hearns who is over six foot and has a right hand that destroyed roberto and pipino:think

Hagler walked through what I'd call very hard, clean shots from Hearns...

There's no evidence to suggest LaMotta wouldn't do the same.

He was the same height as Hagler. And what does the size of biceps have to do with fighting ability? Or for the thread's argument, ability to take a punch?

Go back to reviewing film... You need ALOT more of it.

when hearns fought short guys like roberto and pipino the right hand was very successful as when it was thrown it landed in a downward trajectory which made the shot even more powerful as roberto and pipino found out as both were laid out cold with it and jake is roughly the same size as these guys and he would of hit the deck face first as roberto and pipino did in very similar fashion:think

...Same size, were they? So, do you consider James Toney and Mike Tyson the same size at HW, pretty much? After all, both about the same height...same weight class...
