According to Boxrec: - A point was deducted from Tiberi for a low blow in round 6. - In a fight where many felt that Tiberi dominated, Toney's split decision victory (by scores of 115-111, 115-111 and 111-117) prompted U.S. Senator William Roth of Delaware to call for an investigation of the sport. - The investigation uncovered the fact that the two judges that awarded the fight to Toney, were not licensed in the state of New Jersey. - Tiberi chose to retire, even though he was in the prime of his career, rather than fight again. - In 2009 Toney finally admitted he lost. I missed this, what did he say? Anyone got a link to an article or even video? http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:5864

I remember watching this on abc/nbc/cbs one of those channels. First time I had seen Toney fight, but he was hyped. Toney got a gift.
Banned. He called the Klitschkos nazis on the radio show live so I guess that was one of the last straws.
Yeah but he mainly wasn't that bad as much deluded. His racial slurrs were not over the level of some of the racists still poluting the forum.
Tiberi won that fight, true. This has been clear to everyone all the time: Tiberi got robbed. Toney admitted it himself. BUT it was not the robbery of the century, as some claim. It was still a close fight, where Toney got outworked but landed the better, clearer punches throughout - the 117-111 score for Tiberi was as hilarious as the scores that favoured Toney. Anyone who watched that fight should remember that Toney was sick, and that he was barely able to walk during the last few rounds, due to cramps. Toney stated that he was on the flu, and he should never have entered the ring that night in the first place. Well, he did, and he should have lost... Btw, Toney offered Tiberi an immediate rematch, in Tiberis hometown, but Tiberi retired instead..
