Toney was dropped in the second fight, even though he was off balance

He doesn't have alot of top level knockouts because he isn't very sharp. Strong yes but his power is greatly diminished because of the way he throws punches. He's all over the place and all this focus on boxing isn't helping at all. If anything it has made him worse.

I mean sure. It can be argued that against Toney his boxing skill mattered. But in all honesty you could also easily say that a 240lb Sam Peter with murderous intentions and speed with his old brawler style would have stopped Toney.

Think how Lamon Brewster looked against Andrew Golota. Jessie Reid had Brewster at fighting weight and out for blood. That is the sort of mindset and physical quality a guy like Samuel Peter needs.

A guy like that is never going to be a great boxer because he doesn't have the reflexes or the flexibility to react well. If punches are coming and going it must be on HIS terms. When he leaves it up to the opponent to decide he is short changing himself. And that is what happened all night against Vitali. Had he forced the issue, been at the right fighting weight, pressed hard to get inside and threw hard punches once in close the fight would have been vastly different.

Instead what we got was him on the backfoot, trying to box and trying to evade punches. He let the other guy dictate the exchanges and it showed.

You know Brewster worked hard in the gym, and would come in around 225 lbs at his peak and was willing to work. Peter is stubborn, arrogant and thinks he can show up weighing 253, plodding and be great...:rofl

    Exactly.

See the thing is Brewster himself had this idea that under Reid he was taking more damage than need be. But obviously post-Reid he has taken just as much damage (torn retina) as he did before, and with less successful results. At least he knocked out Golota, Kransniqi and gave Lyakhovich a helluva fight.

I mean let's face it. It's boxing. It's a fight. At the end of the day if you can't handle being punched in the face you shouldn't be a boxer. Lots of us decided not to become boxers for that reason.

You know he showed good defense in the rematch with Wlad, he wasn't eating the all the bombs he ate in the first fight, his problem now is he is old and has taken too much punishment and at 35 his old style just isn't going to work out, Tyson, Fraizer and others with similar styles did not fight well past 34.
