1) Toney didn't have TIME to throw anything. 3) Couture did hit him a number of times, and someone was bleeding during the fight (hint: Not Coture). 4) It's always odd when fighters talk **** leading up to a fight, because anyone who pays attention knows that it doesn't really mean anything and yet there are still fans who will tune in who wouldn't otherwise because "oh, that one guy talked trash and the other guy must be really mad, so this is going to be a great fight!" It happens in almost every sport and means nothing. 5) This happens all the time as well. Seriously, guys schedule multiple fight way in advance and if they get injured or the commission suspends them then they cancel the fight. It doesn't seem like it to the casual fan who only tunes in to the big fights, but lesser guys do this constantly, as do young guys building their records. When you see that a guy fought four times in five weeks, you don't think that he set all of those up one after the other do you? 6) See #5.
Meh...Toney just didn't know what he was getting himself into and paid the price. Making a fool of himself is not going to help him in any future endeavours. I still have respect for him though because of what he has done in boxing.
Hell ****in' Yeah!!! Toney should have stuffed Randy's takedown and shattered his joke of a glass jaw with some vicious yet crisp GnP combo punching!!!!
Toney sure as hell had a sore throat after that Arm Triangle. He didn't tap straight away. Had he been put to sleep he faces suspension for 45 days I think.
like i said him getting taken down espically by a low single is no shock kinda expected its the other things that are odd
Like what? Randy going for a choke? Not exactly news. Randy took the path of least resistance, what a trained fighter always does. Toney tried to cover his face, which opens up the arm triangle nicely, had he tried to push away it would have opened the armbar and that would have likely been the sub, had he turned over it would have been an RNC.
Honestly, if anyone held back it was Randy. The way James looked on the mat Randy was probably like "Jeez... I am not going to hurt the guy." Give him some light shots and choke him out. To rip his shoulder or elbow would literally end his fighting days. Randy seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't put that on another guy. Especially if he was completely dominating him.
Honestly don't you think it is a bit of a shock or at least a serious knock on his corner? I mean even as a low level coach the first thing on your mind as far as a game plan for the Boxer would be, "Dude he is going to go for a single..." Now with that being the game plan, does in no way mean that Toney could defend it at "fight speed", however Toney looked like he never even watched MMA let alone trained and had a game plan against likely scenarios.
I agree, but he didn't even do the "OK he caught me now..." stuff. To your point he could have just not been good enough, but he just had NOTHING. I can just see him in the MMA gym having this huge personality directing/ruining the training.
