To be fair in his last fight where he was apparently rocked by a guy with a 12-5 record he weighed in at his lightest weight for 6 years.

He's 40. Being out of shape for so long doesn't mean that you magically become a world beater when you slim down. It just doesn't it takes its toll and sometime's worse for you.

Here's a fact: Toney weighed 217 in his last fight. He was 230-ish for years prior. He was rocked in his last fight by a complete and utter journeyman who wouldn't have made him blink a few years before. Remember what happened to Chris Bird when he lost a load of weight, got into great shape and tried his luck at LHW? He got annihilated!

Whatever weight James Toney comes in at now he isn't going to be a fighter significantly enhanced over the one you've seen in recent years. He's a KO waiting to happen and it needn't have been that way...all it would've taken is a little bit of discipline a decade ago and his story could have been a much more glorious one.

Toney needs to concentrate on actually fighting and not flapping his gums.
It's been a long time since his last credible win.

I don't think the weight thing is even so much an issue now, it's the age and general wear & tear. He has basically wasted most of his heavyweight career and it may be too late now.

James Toney has more skills more a complete fighter than Byrd, True he should have had more discipline a few years ago he wouldnt be like he is now but most of a his defeats have come down to fitness in the later rounds thats why am saying if he get fit and stop being so lazy he might be able to get threw them later rounds.

I like Toney. He's a quality fighter and his trash talk is always entertaining, but he really needs to think about retiring now. He hasn't looked good in a good few fights now and it seems that boxing's taking it's toll on him.
