Jim Gray looked a little afraid of Toney after the mic was slapped out of his hands. Notice how quickly he wanted to find Evander, probably for protection. Evander is probably the classiest fighter in its history. Toney is entertaining to watch, like a character in a Rocky movie. If Haye doesn't want to be a part of this and fight Toney, then maybe Haye isn't what the Heavyweight division needs.
Actually a bit depressing, to see the 217lb 2003 Toney there and think what he could've done like that...
Sure Jim Gray may be a dick but he didnt say anything wrong here. He congratulated him and asked "Were you just to fast and quick for Evander tonite?" which was later confirmed by Evander himself. Thats whats so ****ing funny about it. Jim was just doing his job, and Toney was ****ing crazy:nut Do you people just want to see Jim beaten down just because he's abit of a dork? I don't get how this thread has turned into the official "Jim Gray hater thread"
love that moment, **** Jim Grey. the biggest reason why i hate Jim Gray is when he interviewed Jeremy Williams while he was still sitting on the canvas and clearly not fully recovered after he was knocked out by Peter. it really seemed like he was only giving all the attention he could for Showtime since it was such an attractive KO. that **** was just dispicable on his part.
I was there that night and the way Evander was broken down shocked me, James continued to rant way into the hours at the press conference.. pointing fingers at Jameel McCline and Chris Byrd amongst other cats.. Holyfield looked very drained by the time he got to the interview room and it took him over 40 minutes to supply a **** sample because he was mad dehydrated.. A writer friend of mine (Carol Ann Weber) asked James a question about who he wanted next.. she then suggested the name Tyson.... James smiled and mouthed the words... suck my dick.. It was rediculously funny.... James is a ledgend....
He did irritate Toney, looking at it again, when his speech was in full flow saying that he should make a decent conversation.I can see how he pissed him off there.
James is a good-natured guy and later was cool with Jim Gray, it just happened in the heat of the moment. Toney is quite hot-tempered, but not malicious at all. One has also to remember that he just beat Holyfield at HW so he was quite pumped up and excited, and then Jim Gray comes and irritates him. And seriously it's not like he hit him or something, he just slapped the mic out of his hand and told him that he didn't like him. I remember one post-fight interview that happened some time after that where Jim Gray asked Toney who he wanted to fight next, and Toney jokingly said 'anybody anywhere anytime - maybe I'm just gonna fight you Jim'. Jim had a scared look on his face for about half a second then, probably remembering this episode, but then both laughed.
AGREED Even Major leauge baseball players had refused to do interviews with him for a moment. Jim Grey seems to have very little respect for anyone that participates in sports. He's trying to be a hard hitting reporter, but pisses off all athltes of all sports. I think its safe to say that most atlhletes have a slight disdain for the man.
