Im just kidding, I was quoting Anglosaxon... I thought Toney beat Griffin twice anyway. Griffin had that weird style that made good fighters look like ****.:yep
I also said to put a prime Calzaghe in against a prime Griffin... That fight would be more ugly and close than many Calzaghe fans would want to admit.
True. Calzaghe didn't have the power to keep Griffin in line. It would be an ugly, difficult night for Joe C.
James (Burger King/Lights Out) Toney is better skilled than Bernhard (The Excutioner) Hopkins. I'm not saying Hopkins is lacking in skills. Far from it in fact. Toney however had better skills than Hopkins.
Joe would have really struggled with Griffin in my opinion, their styles especially would have made for a very ugly fight, neither had highlight reel material, and both were awkward.:yep Besides the fact I think Griffin is underrated, I think he was a damn good fighter at his best. I would say Joe wins in an close ugly fight though.
How do you see Calzaghe vs Glen Johnson playing out in 2004 at lightheavy, the year Johnson won Ring Fighter Of The Year?
Very interesting. Toney is slicker and looks flashier but wud b more fundamentally sound if u ask me. Hopkins has more discipline but wen it comes to skills its kinda hard to call. Toney wud b slicker and mayb more defensively skillfulbut overall its hard to call.
Great question. I would say Toney is more TALENTED but slightly less skilled...Toney has the thing he does...that crossarm defense, slipping, countering lead rights and swaying with punches. He does that better than most any fighter you'll ever see in the history of boxing. However, skill is more than just style. Toney has a more skilled STYLE than Hopkins, but Hopkins is the better fighter because he can ADAPT. Hopkins sees what you have in the early rounds and makes adjustments, round after round. He THINKS in the ring, whereas what Toney does is pure reflexes. And therefore I believe Hopkins is the more skilled fighter. If you watch his fights with Tito, Tarver, Pavlik...Hopkins systematically takes these men apart by taking their best weapons from them, stealing their confidence, and then dismantling the shell of a fighter in front of him...and that to me is more impressive than Toney's wonderful style.
