There first fight is one i would have in my top 10 for the skill level, handspeed, combination Punching it had it all i had Toney nicking it 7-5 tho a draw or a McCallum win are results i wouldnt argue with but there second fight was just as intresting i thought Toney won by a point i had it 6-6 in rounds But Mike had a point taken how did one of the judges have it 118-110 Toney?
Best performance of Toney's career, as close as it was. Highly technical affair. I had him nicking it by a point, though I gave the rematch to McCallum by two.
I have watched both fights a lot of times. The first fight: I thought that Toney won it. Both fighters were equally matched but Toney landed the overhand right hand flush consistently throughout the whole fight. It was the punch that convinced me to give him a lot of those close rounds. It always drew a strong reaction from the fans as it landed. McCallum was little bit busier though. Sean O grady had Toney winning by six points. The second fight: McCAllum landed a lot of little punches was gain clearly busier while Toney landed the harder more telling blows. It was just hard to ignore those hard punches. Lederman had Toney winning 3 points but it wasn't an easy fight to score. It was a testament to McACllum's that he could hang in there with a young Toney. To me he just did not land enough power punches to win those fights.
I considered it an entertaining bout because of the skill showed throughout. Very good fight. Not top tier, but skill-wise it was one of the better technical affairs I've seen at MW.
From memory(I've actually watched the first fight more recently than the rematch) Toney's work at the end, a big surprise, is what nicked him the decision in my eyes, whereas in the rematch that wasn't the case, though the action for the most part was pretty similar from what I remember.
Yes both fights were quite similar, McCAllum being a bit busier and Toney landing the harder punches with the right hand.
