McClellan really looking to make a fight out of it while Tony keeps his composure and gives as good as he gets just not as flashy

If the date at the bottom of the video is correct, the sessions took place at a time when James Toney was 19-0 and a full yr from knocking out Michael Nunn to become IBF MW champion. McClellan was 14-2, and would fight a scheduled 8 rounder at light heavy about a wk after this date. Point being that both guys were still very young and were yet to make their names.

Notice how neither fight from a high guard.
I literally wouldn't cross the street to watch them spar.

Wow, I had no idea McClellan ever fought at light heavyweight. Probably would have prolonged his career if he stayed at that weight and never drained himself. There’s some off camp pics of him on Twitter and he looks like a full blown cruiser.

This footage's release and its 'sister' footage of Hearns - McCallum reminds me that Manny Steward was hoarding a lot of quality video material.

I understand that much of the Kronk sparring was filmed. He said that hed release more sparring footage, but he died prior to fulfilling this promise.

I know for instance that he said he had the entirety of Jones Jr sparring SRL, again, it does no good sitting in storage. I know I'm not alone in wanting to see more of Bernard Mays, the Lamont Lovelady footage isn't enough to do justice to that talent...especially since Steward himself rated Superbad so highly.

Its a terrible shame for boxing, those fighter's who worked out of Kronk and for Steward's memory that he couldn't complete his wish to share all that footage.

Toney took Gerald to school in sparring just as he would have taken him to school under the bright lights.
