Wait, wait, wait, hold on..... are we talking about JAMES Toney? 'cause if it's him, I know u wouldn't want him nowhere near a ring, not even with protective gear... u can't call yourself a fan and want this guy to go take more punishment than he has at this stage of his career.... he's NOT gonna be a factor in boxing anymore, period!

His speech pattern is definitely a cause for concern.

This is what I don't get. Boxing is a sport that guys don't leave willingly. The young lions come up and throw the old men out. Why is it so different for Toney?

Dude there are tons of guys with less recognition that James Toney. Guys trying to build their name. For some reason guys like Haye, Adamek, Thompson, Arreola, etc... aren't getting title shots, but don't bang him out of the sport. Why aren't any of these guys on TV calling out Toney? Why?

I personally want Toney to retire. Hell I wanted that after the second Peter loss, but I know by seeing him he needs to be dominated mentally. These young lions need to step up and show the old man that he doesn't have it anymore.

Man no matter how crappy he looks, Toney is tough as nails. Being able to say I was the man that retired him would be solid.

"Nobody else would step up. I had to get in there and show him that this boxing ring is no place for old men. I had to end that chapter in boxing. I see a few other chapters that need ending..."

    Bull****.

James has been calling out the Sisters for like 2 years, and they want nothing to do with him, they know it is high risk, low reward. James would lose to both the Sister IMO, but that's not the point, the guy is a fraggin warrior and would fight them two no problem, but their people know it's too risky for little reward. If they win verus Lights Out it would just be "Oh, he's shot anyway" or "He's a frickin' middleweight!".. so the Sister's people won't let them take the fight.

Are you dumb? One of those guys is a Champion, two have had world title shots already and the other has just started out in the Heavyweight division.

I am white myself you ****in' clown. I already said I think that both the Sisters would beat James, but their peple know their is nothing to gain by beating James, so it won't happen.

Toney has not won a meaningful fight in years. His last several 'wins' have been gifts.

Are you dumb? I am not talking about this exact moment in time you fool. James Toney has been lurking around HW since 2005. Calling everyone and their mother out.

Damn nothing worse than a dumb ass trying to make a point based on his perceived intelligence. It is better to shut your mouth and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Again, I fully agree with you. Naturally, the young guys should retire the older generation like Toney. But as they don't want a piece of Toney, he should go for Thompson who might be the meaningful only option left for him.

Haye Adamek and Arreola are higher profile and higher regarded at this moment in time. Thompson not as much but even he has a spot in the rankings and really doesn't need a Toney fight.

Toney won't fight on an under card which he has stated recently.
I bet Fres would fight him again since many he thought he got robbed the first time. I bet many heavies would fight him but why bother when you are already ahead of him?
****, Toney wn't fight ANYBODY and many will tell you that he even avoided the Klits when he had a real chance a few years back.

I like the onthegrind radio show but they are so afraid / in love with Toney being on the show, that they have no problem parroting everything he says. It is very soft, feeble broadcasting when they do this and the irony is they think its very cutting edge shouting out about the "sisters" "avoiding Lights Out" when the whole thing is a farce.

And I like Toney in and outside the ring he is a riot in both. Too bad he is going into MMA I just can't see how he can win there against a skilled MMA guy who will take him down before he knows what the hell happened.

I think that a fight with Toney, expecially if they win by ko, would add more momentum to the Klitschko's legacy than fighting bums like Sosnowsky, whatever his name is... However, it's also clear that the ball is on James' side, he needs to add a meaningful win to his hw resume in order to become relevant again... Talking and relying on his potential ATG status just won't do it for him...

    Two points:
-basically, I agree that fighters who are past their best should retire and leave the stage for the 'young lions', as you call them. In that regard, it would probably be the best and healthiest thing for Toney to retire, especially as his ATG status is cemented.
BUT, reality is that Toney wants to fight on, and he won't retire, regardless if he should do so. Since he doesn't get a meaningful fight in boxing (or so it seems), he even wants to enter MMA now to get into a ring. And since he wants to continue anyway, it's up to the young lions to throw him out of the game - but they won't do it. They won't fight him. Toney would still be a good name on anybodys resume, but they won't fight him, because he still represents too much risk.
Well, the topic of this thread was that Tony Thompson was willing to face him now, so we don't understand why Toney is unwilling to take that fight...

-The young fighters you named, Haye, Thompson, and Arreola, all got their title-shots, deserving or not. I'm certain Adamek will get one too during the next two years. Haye even got offered title shots aginst both Klitschkos and chickened out, he still got his title-shot against Valuev. Tony Thompson can't be called a young fighter, he's a veteran. He's also the only man willing to face Toney now.
Your question as to why Arreola and Haye don't call Toney out is perfectly relevant. Toney called out both, and they wanted no part of him.
