Rahman I believe was telling the truth at the post ring interview. Blood was getting into his eye and he could'nt see Toney's right hands coming. .....and its true what Rahman said, before the cut Toney was'nt getting his right hand in. ....once Rahman is cut, Toney starts to land them with regularity. I believe the reason that Rahman did'nt hide the fact he could'nt see was because that he knew that if he'd have gone out there in the 4th and gave it a try and the blood still poured from the cut.......Rahman would likely lose the 4th round also with the cut still bothering him, and after 4 rounds complete, guess what folks????? Its no longer a no contest, it actually goes to the cards....and fighting that 4th round would have actually meant that Rahman was giving Toney the opportunity to win the fight. Clearly, fighting the 4th round would have benefited Toney and Toney only...... I can see why Rahman did'nt want to risk fighting another round when it was likely that the cut was going to bother him the whole night. It was'nt the ugliest cut, but indeed it was deep, and likely to get worst. Imo the wrong decison was rendered, and I believe that after the governing body interviews the ref and the doctor....(the doctor already said he recommended to the ref to stop it) the decision will be reversed to a no-contest. I'll be suprised if its not overturned!
Excellent decision. From a post I just put on another thread: http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/6067/james-toney-forces-hasim-rahman-quit/ Rahman told the ringside doctor I cant see three times and This content is protected , said referee Corona who stopped the fight. Top Ranks Todd DuBoef the company promoting Rahman said that it should have been ruled a no contest. But This content is protected so therefore it was a technical knockout for Toney. This content is protected Rahman quit, and by his quitting, he gets the "TKO'd by" on his ledger.
Golota didn't see anything on one eye for the half fight with Mollo and didn't quit, amazing assuming that previously Golota was quitting from lesser reasons. Rahman could have continue for a few more rounds so doctor could clearly decide ...
Bad enough that the CA Boxing Commision, the referee, and the doctor all deny responsibility for making the call.
LOL...The rules were followed. The doc asked Rock three times if he wanted to continue...And Rock never answered the question directly...instead he said he couldn't see! 3 times!. When you tell a ring side physician that you Can't see you know that he's gonna stop the fight. No boxers say they can't see with a little cut like that. The doc even said the cut wasn't severe enough for him to stop the fight due to the cut. Rock chose to quit bc his ass was getting handled in round 3.
No...Rock knew he didn't want to continue which is why he "IMPLIED" that he could not see...therfore he could not continue. This was a judgement call and in the end the right call.
Clearly Rock could see.....Rock played his hand and lost the gamble. he knew he didn't want to say he couldn't go on even though they had the bleeding under control the entire time. That is clear to see just by watching the fight and the interview afterwards. Rock looks like a complete quitter and BIG *****.
Man I was disgusted with the lack of balls Rock showed. You remember when Vitaly got that nasty cut over his eye against LL! OMG.....Vitaly wanted to continue and in that case there was blood FLOWING in his eye yet he could see well enough.:-( JT looked damn good after warming up and getting his rythm.
It's a DAMN good thing Chris Byrd didn't slap the dude, or else he would have likely gotten his ASS KICKED by a bald man while his good buddy Jesus watched and laughed.
You are giving Rock an out? For acting like a *****? This is boxing...you didn't see Vitaly up and quite when LL sliced his eye open, he wanted to continue and that cut was 100 times worse than the cut Rock had. Rock did himself and boxers a diservice by acting like a *****. Rock has nothing to be proud of except for a great KO 7 or 8 yrs ago against LL.
