There have always been past their best heavyweights trying to comeback, like Archie Moore, Larry Holmes, Holyfield, and even Ali. Neither Toney or Rahman has a chance to win against the top five heavies, so why does the fact that they are going to try to get back in the mix, or do whatever they can, (however unsuccessful they are) make the entire current division sad? :blood
Good point. It's not as if they are fighting for a title. Two past their best heavies fighting to keep their names in the mix is nothing new. Like you said, it's happened in every era.
We can all agree that guys like Toney and Byrd and Rahman shouldn't be fighting anymore. We can also all agree that it's all these guys know and have ever done in their lives. It's very hard to let that go. I mean, what else is Toney going to do? I could see Byrd becoming a trainer, but Toney is just too much of a hard ass to actually be patient enough to train someone that's under his skill level--which would be just about anyone. As far as the fight goes, after almost getting beat by Danny Batchelder, it's hard to pick James at all, much less against a formerly good fighter like Rahman. It's unfortunate, but would probably have to go with Rock, pending weigh-in results.
Both fighters are past their primes in a big way in my opinion. That being said I'd like to see Toney win - as much I'm a fan of Rahman. This one is going the distance again.
Because unfortunately, these two guys remain two of the biggest names in heavyweight boxing. Neither is an icon like those you mentioned above, yet they remain in the title picture in some loose way simply by virtue of absence of talent. True, that happens in all divisions (e.g., 175) to some extent, but it's far worse at heavyweight. Just look at their most recent fights. It's a shame there isn't more depth in the division, and it's sad that one proven slurrer is facing a guy who probably will doing the same because both stayed in too long. I understand it's their lives and all that, but it isn't good for the sport.
Rahman won the 1st fight but had to settle for the **** draw, but this time he clearly beats Fat ass all over the ring, drug test that ****ing cheater Toney :verysad before the fight..
This fight doesn't exactly get you excited, but I'll still watch. I thought Rahman won the first fight but I'm not sure who wins the rematch. Rahman has looked awful and Toney last struggled with a journeyman. Neither guy is going to be relevant in the division except for some name value.
