I hope Toney will not fight a bum in May but it might be difficult for the new start up company "lightsout promotions" to get any notable opponent. Anyway, it was a good decision to split up with "Goossen promotions" as Toney was shockingly inactive for the past couple years.
I wonder also if Toney has changed his trainer now again. He fought his last fight (Oquendo) under the guidance of Joe Goossen, the fight before that (Rahman II) with Shadeed Suluki - if he changes trainers again it will be 3 different trainers in 3 fights. Toney doesn't need somebody to teach him anything, but he needs a hardcore trainer who keeps his ass in the gym between fights. An oldschool trainer for an oldschool fighter. Ediie Mustafa comeback anyone?
I agree with you. Don King is known to give older HWs title-shots, so this would have been a wiser choice for Toney than starting his own promotional company. Toney is standing with his back at the wall at this point, he has to swallow his pride and sign with Don. Nobody wants to fight Toney at this point and he doesn't have the cash himself to get a high profile opponent in the ring. So yes, Don King would have been the right choice for Toney - but as we all know Toney can't stand Don King (remember him screaming (Don King k**s my ass), and being the stubborn man he is I don't think Toney will sign with Don.
The fight was painful to watch, I agree, but it could've gone either way. I had Toney up by 1 point. Nobody looked good against Oquendo until now. Toney looked good in his rematch with Rahman, I say one more fight for Toney and if he does well then take it from there...
I had Oquendo winning by 6. It was not a close fight. People who are saying it could have gone either way must have watched the fight through tinted glasses. Anyway, in his past 6 or so fights, he's almost lost to Sam Peter, lost to Sam Peter, almost lost to Danny Batchelder, should have lost to Fres Oquendo, should have lost to Hasim Rahman, and had a couple of no decisions, one because Rahman pussed out and the other because he tested positive for roids. I'm glad Goosen dropped him. Toney shouldn't be fighting anymore one way or the other, and if he has to promote his own shows, he'll be doing more work for less money which should lead to him retiring sooner.
Keep hatin' bitches. While you dumbasses are talking ****, JT is beating up contenders and adding to his Belt collection. Anyone that thinks Not So Fast Fres won is a big ******, and you can quote me on that!:good
Anyone who thinks Fres is still a contender is at least not up to date :good What was the last time JT has convincingly beaten someone who could be considered contender:think ? I think you have to go as far as 2006 (Peter I).
Toney should fight the Tuaman or Maskaev! Two small plodding HWs that throw **** all punches if he got himself into some sort of shape he'd have no prob with either of them
#22 in the WBC rankings. But thanks for playing, and we'll see you next time on America's Number One Rated Daytime Gameshow on Televison "Get Schooled by Jack Presscot"....Iceman Scully, show him his consolation prizes. :good
If he's setting up his own promo company that he realistically has no choice but to fight on at least one of his own cards. Would look dodgy and hypocritical if he didn't. I think he would be a good charismatic promoter in the Don King mould. Hopefully this is just a one off to kick start the company then he can concentrate on promoting full time.
Toney's Heavyweight experiment was a disaster. No way can he get down to 200 pounds he is shot to bits and addicted to steroids and fast food.
