I think that was his best fight ever since knocking out Jones

I had pretty much assumed Tarver was going to retire after Dawson II. Why would Tarver even want to move up to heavyweight, especially at this stage in his career?

Fighting Toney at heavyweight can't make that much cash. Nobody outside the hardcore fans would care about this match...

It would probably make him more than fighting a no mark at LHW. Plus should he win he can always talk his way into title contention, which could probably then earn him more money.

I guess that's possible, though I personally have no interest seeing Tarver at heavyweight. It's a career move which I really don't see leading anywhere other than defeat. Toney's last fight wasn't televised (at least live?) and after Tarver's snoozefest with Dawson I don't see where the tv money would come from.

You really think Toney has a chance against Briggs? It is too late for Toney and his aspirations to become the HW champ. He cannot beat any of the Klitskos and will have to wait in line for the WBA. I don't even know why he is still even fighting.

I like this fight though am surprised Tarver would jump all the way to HW for it.

To be honest I don't think Toney can beat the Klits at this point. I never claimed it either.
But against Shannon Briggs, Ray Austin or Nagy Aguilera it's a different story - if Toney has anything left he can still outbox these guys. Also Shannon Briggs, who is slow as a pack of nails and far past his best. If Toney really wants to try and make a last run for a title-fight, he should start by beating one of these and not waste his time with Tarver.

    Why bother with Tarver?

Is the money that good? Because it's not going to advance Toney's faint heavyweight title shot hopes any even if he wins.

I think Heavyweight is his weight and he would be a champion if there were a super heavy weight division. Heavyweight doesn't mean what it used to mean.

Because losing to Chad Dawson is nothing to be ashamed about or retire over. It does not mean you are shot because you lose to Chad Dawson. It's like losing to Roy Jones Jr in his prime or Floyd Mayweather, it's not a shock to anyone that you lost.

I like this fight and would also like to see Toney in with Arreola before either gets a title shot.
