what the heavy's need atm are a couple of good gate-keepers.... while guys like Toney and Rahman are too busy still trying to sell themselves off as contenders. with Thompson out this fight is pointless... sad really.

Yes, Thompson, old as he is, was sort of the young buck trying to topple the aging one in terms of career accomplishment.

If nothing else, it may be a good fight. And being shown for free on Vs. doesn't hurt.

I agree, the fight is pointless but at least it will keep Toney active who has not gone a lot rounds in the last 2 years.

Goossen needs to reschedule Toney-Tompson immediately after Saturday's fight. He owns that to Toney's loyal fan basis.

:huh Is this really a question that needed to be asked? Toney by Schooling. Toney even when not motivated would be Quendo....but given Toney most recent preformance against Hasim he looke spectacular! Toney beats anyone but the Klit Bros IMO.

LOL....You need to watch the fight again.,....don't worry it's only about 7 mins or so. Just watching the 3rd round alone will enable you to see what makes James so special. James is the kind of fighter that works up to his rythm....by round 3 Toney was in rythm and landing at will on Hasim even before the accidental clash of heads. Rock knew what time it was and opted OUT! It was a smart move but "*****" was definitely in the air.

    I really hope it's Toney.
He's a big mouth and some of his fans are obnoxious but the guy has serious skills and is a lot more fun to have around than boring Oquendo.

wasn't oquendo's best win the one he should've gotten vs byrd in 03 or so? james toney ain't stopping oquendo. oquendo makes all fights ugly and competitive and james toney has **** power at hw.

Wow I didn't realize I was the only one that likes Toney. I am planning on watching, and cheering for Toney.

This statement is very unfair towards Toney. Toneys recent career was certainly not marked by good luck, on the contrary, he seems to be on a streak of bad luck (Peter I robbery, Rahman II debacle, injuries...). Toney wanted to fight Tony Thompson, who's tall and has an awkward southpaw style that would cause most top HWs big problems (he did even cause problems to Wlad until he gassed in the late rds and got knocked out). Tony Thompson is underrated and dangerous, and definitiley a top ten HW - a very risky fight for Toney at this stage of his career and many here (including you?) picked Thompson to win this one, so Toney should've got a lot of credit for taking it. Even I wasn't certain about the outcome. This fight made somewhat sense and would have put the winner back into title contention.

Now Thompson got sick and they threw in Oquendo as a last minute replacement - hardly Toneys fault, and I guess he wasn't happy about it either because this fight will not lead him anywhere and people don't give a **** about it. It's just a stay busy fight. Still, I guess Oquendo is alright as a last minute replacement, in fact he's not inferior to Monte Barrett - who 'the great' David Haye recently PICKED as an opponent...

Oquendo should win but he'll probably get robbed again. He's a decent boxer with okay speed & Toney is beyond shot. Regardless this fight will be a snoozer.................

If Oquendo comes to win then Toney is in for a long night. At his best Oquendo has fast feet and fast hands and deceptive power. Prepare for this fight like your against Danny Batchelder and you'll get spanked!

A shitty fight, yes, but not Toneys fault. Toney-Thompson would have been competitive and made somewhat sense.

Oquendo should only be viewed as a tune-up for Toney, a stay busy fight in order to shake off some ring rust in prospect of a hopefully soon to be rescheduled Toney-Thompson fight.

I agree with you that Toney should retire if he does not win this one clearly - no need to continue his career then. After all Toney is 40 and this is his last desperate run for a title-shot. Now, Toney should try to make a statement and stop Oquendo, but this won't be easy as Oquendo is a runner who turns fights into stinkers. Nevertheless I have no doubt that Toney shuts him out.
