According to the below mentioned source, a match up between Toney and Brewster is in talks for October 11th!

I think this would be an excellent match up for both former champions as they are in need of a big win to come back into immediate title contention. As they know each other pretty well, by sparring countless rounds together, there cetainly would be no waiting games in the early and this could very well be end up in a very spectacular fight. As the WBO n°1 spot is currently vacant, this fight also would definitely qualify as an eliminator IMO.

As for the result, I think that Toney dominates Brewster due to his superior boxing skills. Brewster, probably the biggest puncher Toney has ever faced (personally I rank him above Peter), however does have a punchers chance if Toney slows down in the late rounds (remember that Toney is 40 years now).

You'd have to be a fan of brain damage to want this one. I agree though, Lamon would be the biggest puncher JT has faced but I hope he retires. His speech is slurred and is getting worse and just providing us with more entertainment isn't worth his health.

I hope it doesn't happen. If it does, don't forget the mop. It'll be a slippery affair with all the drool on the ground. Both are a couple of punches short of becoming drooling vegetables, and I am a fan of both.

WBO #1 spot is not vacant. Dimitrenko is rated 1. Neither Brewster or Toney are even in the WBO top 15, Brewster is not in anyones top 15 ratings and Toney is rated #8 only by the WBC. How would this possibly qualify as an eliminator for any world title?

Anyway I'm sure Brewster (if he were to win) would not be too eager to get beat down again and likely seriously injured by Klitschko.

I like James Toney, but he needs to stop. He's gone as far as he can in boxing. Ideally he would have got the win over Sam Peter in the first fight, the win that he deserved, got his fight against Maskeav and then retired with a HW belt.

But he didnt, he got shafted and he dosent have enough left to fight his way back into contention.

Checked the rankings and I admit that you are technically right o course. But who cares about this bogus rankings? Having seen Dimitrenko several times, I have to strongly disagree with his high positioning. While this guy is a hot talented prospect for sure, he hasn't fought any high caliber heavyweight and got his ranking solely due to the good relations between the WBO and his promoter Universum. Brewster and Toney are both deserving ex-champs who very well qualify for such an elimnation bout. Toney's win over Rahman (even though it was later overruled) for the NABO belt largely qualifies him for a top spot within the WBO.

The sanctioning bodies care about the rankings. I agree about Dimitrenko, though I do like him...he's yet to fight even a top 15-20 fighter but managed to get ranked #1 because he holds a intercontinental trinket, and possibly because of promoter ties to the WBO.

On the other hand, do we really need to recycle these "deserving ex-champs"? Toney isn't even a ex-champ at heavyweight and Brewster got his payday and title shot against Wlad last year.

Brewster gets a win over Batchelder after 13 months off ( big deal, Toney beat him last year, Dimitrenko beat him also) and Toney has a 3 round NC (so he didn't win any NABO trinket) with Rahman and that's supposed to qualify this potential matchup as a world title eliminator or even a top ranking???? I don't agree with you at all on that.

These 2 battered old war horses might put on a entertaining battle.Fat and ill condotioned, Toney just boxes from reflex and memory now. Brewster has little skill in comparison, and if not for the ko's over Wlad and Golota, would really have little credibility. Look for Toney to win this one, but it won't prove much.

Two old shot fighters - those two even shot - fighting each other. Seems to be the new trend instead of retireing just eek out a little more money out of your name. :nono
