Toney vs. Brewster in talks for oct 11!!!

    im surprised this is happening, i thought both of these guys are good friends.

    should be a interesting fight, i'd still rather see toney fight and beat the crap out of haye

    Despite having mixed results, Toney has faced the best out there (except for Wlad): Peter (2x), Ruiz, Rahman (2x) and Holyfield. His resume is impressive at heavy! He faced better competition than most of today's top ten heavy's despite starting his career at 157 pounds. No one can argue with these facts. Also, in my book, Toney beat every heavyweight he has been in with. He faced Peter although he could have benefited a guaranteed title shot against Maskaev. He subsequently beat Peter in their first fight for christ sake. The decision was so bad that the WBC ordered an immediate rematch. The fact that Toney clearly lost that one doesn't take anything away from him.

    It's so easy to say, now in 2008, that Holyfield was old and past prime back then. 5 years ago Holyfield wasn't considered to be shot. I agree that he was no longer in his prime, but he was still viewed as a legit top 10 heavyweight by almost every observer. In fact Toney was considered the underdog in that fight. But then again, I think that most of you guys haven't been following boxing 5 or 10 years ago...

    I agree, Holyfield was ranked number 5 by the ring magazine prior to the Toney fight. Let's not forget that Holyfield went 12 rounds against the WBO champ Ibrahimgov 4 YEARS LATER and won some rounds in that fight.

    Brewster may be able to finish this one. Quiting on his stool against the frail Klitchko did little to inspire confidence in his willingness to pay the price. Mabie this time he can suck it up and finish the fight. Any way you look at it this is not a match between two contenders. These two are running on empty with little to no chance of ever winning a title even a todays division.

    "This is not a match between two contenders" ???? I can not agree with such a statement. How do you define being a contender then? While both may no longer be in their prime, Toney and Brewster are viewed as viable contenders by most observers. The winner of their match up would therefore very well qualify for an immediate world title shot!

    This fight would be a good option for both fighters. As lowblow3 said they both need a good win to revive their careers, and both only have had some pro rounds after long lay-offs. It doesn't matter if they are friends, both men are warriors and I am sure they come to fight in the ring.

    I have James Toney winning this one by UD. The most important thing here is that both men have sparred a lot together, so Toney knows how Brewster fights and he can time him and outbox him. Brewster bisggest assets are his toughness and punching power, well as I have stated here countless times, if Toney has something left (and I believe that he has), Brewsters power will not affect him. Because firstly Toney is still a defensive master and Brewster will have a hard time landing a good punch on him, and secondly even if Brewster lands, Toney has still one of the best chins in boxing. I'm not saying that it's impossible for Brewster to KO Toney, but it's improbable. I don't see Toney seriously hurting the iron-chinned Brewster either, so I'll think he'ss box his way to a UD in an action-packed fight.

    One thing I came to think about, both fighters have Shadeed Suluki as trainer. So in which corner would he be if this fight came off?

    **** yeah!! Finally a big name matchup might come to Indy. The Fieldhouse is a beautiful arena, too. I'll definitely be going to this if it goes down. :happy :happy :happy

    This actually is a matchup that makes no sense at all for Toney at this point. I just hope that this is belongs to Goossen's negotiation tactics to put some the pressure on David Haye...

    i like this matchup its a nice boxer vs puncher but they are both in bad conditon and loser should hang em up for sure
