I'm not as confident as most of you guys...it's randy's world.. But his chin makes Wlad's chin look like titanium...

Logically , he should simply shoot for Toney's legs and not try anything else (if he really wants to play it safe)...but will he do it ?

    Think about it...

On one side...toney's style is terrible for mma. And he's not a ko artist...(though 44 kos is not bad at all...)

On the other..Randy has the tools to beat him...and the rules to his advantage but his chin is terrible... If Randy had let's say.. Fujita's chin or Mavrovic's...or Tua's chin... then this fight would be so predictable it wouldn't even be worth watching...

But it isn't the case. As long as Toney is on his feet...it's 50/50.

If Toney can stuff takedown attempts and lands just one good shot, Toney will win. Randy must be precise, take it to the ground fast or he will be looking up at sponsor banners.

I agree with you. Toney's goose is cooked unless he did insane amounts of sprawling.

I do however think that stuffing James on the cage is NOT in Randy's best interest. James' uppercuts are murderous. He needs to keep this by the book. Shoot and ground and pound. I really do think there may be an underestimation of a boxer's ability to hit a small target and/or hand speed.

The problem is that Toney sucks in the one thing that a boxer has all the advantages in... wheels(movement). That is what pisses me off. I want to root for Toney, but damn man Randy is a class act.

No I dont believe he can but can Toney ? Toney has one shot thats on his feet and with his lack of experience grappling if he goes down early in a round he probably wont get back up during the fight. Toney better time things perfectly because if he just throws a bad shot or a punch at the wrong time Randy changes his level and dumps Toney on his ass simple as that. Toney can work 99 months on his sprawl if he wants he isnt going to stop a takedown from a man whos been wrestling for over 30 years at a very high level.

liddel had a good sprawl, you shoot in and he stuffs it. randy didnt just shoot in against chuck, he used his greco roman background from inside the clinches to take liddlel to the ground, that was the key for couture in his and liddels first fight.

couture can shoot in, clinch to get underhooks but if does toney is toast. couture can make mistakes as long as it isnt within standing strike range of james toney.

if randy plays it safe toney is done, whats he gonna do ko couture with a uppercut as he shoots in- not likely.

if toney sprawls and succeeds in defending the first takedown he then has to defend the next one, and the next one, and the next one. If it becomes a clinch then toney will definitely get put on his back, he is the much smaller man with zero to limited take down defense.

the odds are against toney, but I would like to see him win.

even if he does win, what then? will he go for a title shot? maybe fight lyoto machida next. if he wins that then shogun rua. do you think he will keep getting lucky?

    whats the point really?

Intrest he has generated might earn him a high profile boxing match, if he beats Couture

How familiar are you with Couture? Chuck Lidell is a monster puncher and that was the first time Couture had been knocked out.

I just hope Toney doesn't get hurt. Hopefully he just gets put to sleep and doesn't have to eat a lot of elbows etc. I really don't think he belongs in there. It's a mistake by the UFC to put on this bout.

Don’t worry. Old man Couture will be sleeping in the canvass before he has change to throw any elbows

I'm in 2 minds. Randy has to just grapple. Dirty boxing might not be smart. I also think he wants to work his way in to a clinch behind punches. That moment may get him ko'd too. I'm not sure we can rely on Randy to get in there move around and just shoot. Randy should just feint a jab and shoot. Even if Toney stuffs the first one, Randy can find out if Toney can change levels easily or not.
