Like when Mercer Ko`d Tim Silvia you mean ?... half the fkn general forum were drooling from the mouth with excitement.

It works both ways, its embarrassing how fans of one of these sports that dont like the other see it as some sort of competition.

They are separate sports & neither will ever have any prolonged success in each others field, they is just too many skills involved to have a late start.

Regarding the above, agree completely ... people need to smarten up and stop falling into the whole media picking up on boxing vs MMA

it's a very tired argument since the 2 sports are very different.

and regarding the last bit, could you imagine if there were a fighter to come along and get to the elite level in boxing + MMA at the same time?

Couture doesn't have many/any tattoos last time I checked.

    1. Toney only started looking good in the Rahman rematch after the head clash, which James got the better of.

    2. When he was at Cruiser? How long ago was that? besides taking this seriously, a lot of this fight will come down to how well Toney can defend the take down.

**if you've seen Dailey/Koscheck, St. Pierre/Hardy and Silva/Evans, all the 3 guys that lost, spent a majority of the fight on the ground being outwrestled

Toney certainly has a punchers chance vs Couture (who has been KO'd before ... and dropped in his last HW fight vs Big Nog ... who is more known for his submissions) .. but James has to keep it standing, or else he'll be worn down enough for a UD loss, or ground and pound stoppage.

and regarding Couture .. after losing 2 fights straight at HW (vs Lesnar and Nog) he's since moved down to LHW and on a 2 fight win streak

**of course vs Toney will be at HW, because Toney cannot make LHW.

I see it the exact same way. Couture is a former multi-time UFC LHW and HW champ (the first UFC fighter to win belts in more than one weight class) and has an MMA record of 18-10.

beating a 40 year old boxer, who's past his prime and yet to compete professionally in MMA would be pretty much expected at this point.

as for Couture being a "joke" I wouldn't go that far ... this is a competition, and upsets do happen.

But I would have to think if Couture loses to Toney, in Toney's pro debut mind you it would have to be considered one of the biggest combat sports upsets of all time

which brings me back to a question I have, is why would Couture take this fight? especially on a 2 fight win streak, you'd have to figure after the Rampage/Evans winner ... Randy is probably one or 2 fights away from a shot at the LHW champ. beating an MMA rookie really doesn't do much

Martial Artists might not have the best boxing, but im tired of the argument that these MMA fighters are "jack of all trades" masters of nothing

just so you know, some pro martial artists were former Wrestling collegiate champs, and others even made Olympic teams .. when a pro boxer wins an Olympic gold medal it is looked at as a big deal .. why not the same if a pro MMA fighter did exceptionally well in their

? (several martial arts are Olympic sports as well, not just boxing)

street fighting might not require the greatest skill set or technical ability .. but what about
    This content is protected
    , Judo, jui-jitsu, sumo or

    ?

again Martial Artists probably don't have the best boxing ability (and I agree)

but don't act like these fighters have zero skills. Why don't you take a look at some of their career paths/accomplishments first.

****** the previous UFC champ is a black belt in Karate and was very skilled at sumo

so if you're labeling MMA based on street fighting alone , you are very mis informend and need to look at the bigger picture.

WTF?!?! No way should anyone's first MMA match be against Randy Couture. Dana White is a *****.

Everyone has a puncher's chance but Toney should get beaten rather easily.

Don't be surprise when Toney comes in at a ripped 210 to knock someone's teeth out.

Yes he is, he is 46 and still considered one of the top guys, he no longer fights at heavy weight because they are just to big, Lesner was like 260 when Randy at 220 fought him, and Randy can fight. He will try to take it to the ground. Don't get me wrong I am a true boxing fan and love the sport and have for 20+ years but I love watching all kinds of combat sports, MMa, K1, Muay Thai, hell even Chuck Norris's karate thing he had on tv LOL, I know of a few Boxers who have competed in kick boxing and MMA and they do well (Remember Shannon Briggs fighting the K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 in Saitama) Ko the guy in 1:02..:bbb

Randy should win. His wrestling, GnP and Jiu-Jitsu skills are all very good and if the fight goes to the ground, Toney doesn't stand a chance.

However, Couture's chin has looked bad in his recent fights. Toney definitely has a puncher's chance.

Sorry for the Slow reply just getting facts strait, and not sure what the whole Bud thing is about but could you explain your sentence? If Briggs did not even fight a K1 in his lone K1 appearance? Never said Brigg fought for the K1 championship but if you type in K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 in Saitama you will see he fought on the card, K-1 is a promotional gourp. K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 in Saitama was a kickboxing event promoted by the K-1 organization. It was a showcase event, featuring an 'Opening Fight' and nine 'Super Fights' between established K-1 stars and up and coming fighters, with all bouts fought under K-1 Rules (100 kg/156-220 lbs). The Super Fight winners would also be considered as qualifiers for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2004 Final Elimination. (and I didn't know this but Francois Botha was also on the card and both he and Briggs qualified for the final elimination) In total there were twenty fighters at the event, representing nine countries. The event was held at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on Saturday, March 27, 2004 in front of 14,918 spectators.

And to answer your next question who are these boxers ie Francois Botha, Chris Lytle, Marcus Davis, Alessio Sakara and Marcus Hicks. All of whom were relatively average boxers who have done pretty well in the MMA business. I gave a cpl of records you can look up the rest. Take it easy. And if im wrong please enlighten me.

    Chris Lytle Professional boxing record
    Total 15 Wins 13 By knockout 7 Losses 1 Draws 1

MMA record Total 50 Wins 28 By knockout 4 By submission 18
    Losses 17 By knockout 2 Draws 5

    Marcus Davis Professional boxing record
    Total 20 Wins 17 By knockout 12 Losses 1 By knockout 1 Draws 2

MMA record Total 23 Wins 17 By knockout 6 By submission 8 Losses 6
    Draws 0 No contests 0

Probably why Couture got this fight. His experience and jaw. It would be devastating to UFC if Couture loses. Then again most fans of UFC are young and stupid so they probably wouldn't thing much of it. Saying, damn Couture got old or some dumb **** like that.

Toney will get destroyed and fast. He has no skills to compete in MMA. Boxing skills are only one part of the equation in fighting. What happens to Toney when Couture, who is an Olympic level wrestler, takes him to the mat.

I love boxing, but MMA requires a greater range of skills than just fighting with fists.

Toney is a fat joke who will get hurt in August.

James is making a mistake here. He should stick to boxing.
