Brilliant fight. Top drawer skills on display from both. McCallum later gave Jones a good fight too, outboxing him in the middle rounds. Brilliant fighter who doesn't get the acclaim of many much lesser talents.

I saw this fight years ago but cannot remember it very well. They are both masters of the art IMO, so I am going to purchase it on a mix dvd very soon. Toney edged the trilogy, but McCallum was a natural 154 and a bit older by then. I prefer Toney as a fighter, but McCallum is the best ever 154 I think, better than Norris or Hearns or Wright at that weight.

When Mccallum was in his prime, at 154, he was avoided by Duran, Leonard, Hearns , and Benitez, as if he was a leper. That tells you what kind of fighter he was right there. By the time he went to 160, he was already on the slide. While still sliding , he had Toney struggling, and troubled Jones just a bit. One of the best fighters ever that never really got his big chance while he was in or near his prime.

Excellent fight, and I thought Toney deserved the win.

I'm not sure he was better than Hearns at 154. McCallum actually became more technically sound at MW, after the first one-sided Kalambay loss. That's according to McCallum himself.

Anyone else notice that this fight was conveniently ignored by HBO when they declared Hopkins-Tito "the biggest middlewieght fight since Hagler-Hearns"?

Great fight. Toney was the young hungry up and comer, and Mike the wiley old veteran who was still classy. Toney had some tough fights as middleweight champ; he certainly took on all comers, rare in the modern game.

They were good fights. In my mind, Toney won them by landing several clean hard overhand right. McCAllum was little bit busier especially in the second but was not able to land a lot of powershots. He elected to circle and jab.
