Both men have something to prove to get back into contention. A lot of people thought Toney took their first fight, while Peter clearly took the second. But Peter hasn't looked nearly as good as he did back then in his recent outings. I just noticed Toney is going to fight Oquendo next week. Good that he's staying active, but it sounds like a horrifyingly boring fight. :dead Oquendo lost to a 45 year old Holyfield last time i saw him. This content is protected
Who on earth would want to sit through that bore fest? Peter is a quitter with no skill and Toney is a fat steroid addicted 40 year old at the end of his career.
I agree totally. If Peter wins where does he go? He just lost big time to Klitshko. If Toney wins then he is in the same place he is now. He just beat Rahman and Rahman is the one getting the title shot. By the way, why couldn't Toney have stepped in to fight Klitchko if he was fighting at the same time as those guys? Maybe they didn't offer it to him.
The thing is Toney was supposed to fight Tony Thompson, who got sick. Toney-Oquendo may be a horrible match-up, but Oquendo's just a late minute replacement and Toney couldn't do anything about it. The Toney-Thompson fight should absolutely be rescheduled, it makes much more sense at this point than Toney-Peter III. The Toney-Thompson fight made somewhat sense and would have put the winner back into title contention. Thompson is underrated and dangerous, he is tall and has an awkward southpaw style (he even gave Wlad problems until he gassed and got knocked out late) that could give Toney big problems. A very risky fight for Toney at this point, still the way to take for Toney if he wants another title-shot. Tony Thompson is more competitive than Peter at this point - Peter is finished in my opinion.
Bring Toney RJJ II. RJJ did say he's the best he ever fought. Another good fight could be Bhop. vs Toney.
I don't think anyone wants to see Peter-Toney III, so it won't market well. Besides that, a win over Toney won't do Peter much good unless it's a devastating knockout win. Peter needs to brutalize a leading contender or a well known name in order to reestablish himself as a bomber who can overpower anyone on the right night. He needs to look really, really good in order to capture the imagination of boxing fans again. Personally, I'd like to see Peter in a war with comebacking David Tua. These guys would slug it out, and both of them have devastating power. The fight would probably end by kayo, and the winner gets reestablished as a bonafide contender.
I want to see Peter in there with Valuev. Peter likely gets brutally knocked out, but there is a chance he flattens the giant. Either way one of them is a goner. And that is good for boxing.
