I agree with you about Oquendo. I don't believe James Toney is "shot to pieces". With his style Toney should be able to do still well even at a more advanced age, kinda like an Archie Moore or Ezzard Charles.

    1) what big network in their right mind would be interested in toney/tarver?? 2005 maybe but not now. 2) solis would clear UD Toney. toney hasn't looked good at hw since peter 1. solis made me at least a semi beliver following his last win.

Over Mr. Glass, Monte Barrett? :blood

Solis would've lost to Kevin Johnson (the original scheduled opponent for October 10th...and yeah I know his stock has plummeted and everybod loves to slag him off after the pitiful title "challenge" in Switzerland, but the fact remains he'd school Solis any day of the week). He may lose to an old shot Toney. I certainly wouldn't make him a heavy (pun intended) favorite.

The fact that lives in your mind.

KJ loses to Solis any day of the week. Time will tell.

Toney versus Tarver would be a fun fight. I might give the edge to Tarver. He is faster and might be too active for the older Toney.

but how does fighting Tarver get Toney any closer to a shot at a belt? I've read since Maskaev got kayoed Solis will be fighting Ray Austin in a WBC Eliminator

James Toney at the moment is ranked #6 by the WBC, but he should try to fight some other ranked or semi ranked WBC challengers.

**does anyone else think Tarver could provide match up problems for Toney? granted Antonio is old and looked like crap both times he fought Dawson, but fighting @ Heavy vs Toney, Tarver has 2 less things to worry about

    1. the overall speed + work rate of Toney shouldn't get to Tarver like Dawson's did.

    and

    2. cutting weight, moving up from LHW to HW Tarver won't have to cut as much weight, and at his age it benefits Tarver.

Antonio Tarver? That would be Tarvers first Heavyweight fight since fighting 60 year old Rocky Balboa.

^ still it's not like Tarver is jumping up and facing a World Titlist @ Heavy

going from Balboa to Toney isn't even that great a jump in level of opposition

he could not beat batchelder and oquendo , at this time i think solis may actually have a chance of stopping him. or at least win a not that much controversial decision .

I like Antonio Tarver the commentator a lot more than Antonio Tarver the boxer.

Keep your (current) night job, dud. :good

He'd get blasted faster than Greer against Toney.

Tarver would be the easier opponent and bigger name for Toney, that seems like the better choice. Solis is young and has the handspeed and enough pop to actually hurt Toney, Tarver doesn't. Unless beating Solis can jump him to the front of the title line then he Toney should face Tarver.

That's why i said "semi believer." Monte's punch resistance has looked **** even going back to the valuev fight, but monte can still be live and throw some decent shots until he gets caught. I just liked how solis made such quick work of monte (who managed to give haye a tougher test and a scary moment or two) and his punch arsenal and apparent power (again i know chin isn't monte's specialty). I used to think Solis had no legit shot at HW given his size and what i thought was a lack of power, but the monte fight made me think he probably has a legit shot to make noise at HW.

BTW, i don't know how u are so certain KJ would beat Solis. Was it his thorough destruction of bruce seldon that convinces you of that (who puts up even less of a fight than monte these days)? or was it the manner in which he landed a total of 5 power punches vs Vitaly? Bottom line is that, Johnson ain't beat **** yet, so who knows.

But more to the point, Toney ain't done crap in years (unless you count looking good for 1 round over a semi blinded by blood half assed hasim rahman), so i feel confident that solis would take a clear decision at least.

Solis has a low skill level. He is not quick and his style is taylor made for James Toney, he fights straightforward. Solis has fought nobodys his whole career, just like Johnson and Arreola except that Solis is not on the same level than Arreola.

Tarver on the other hand, is more skilled, experienced and quicker and has a more difficult style for Toney,

Agreed, if Toney is serious about taking a last run at the title he should fight Solis. A fight with Tarver, even if he puts in a good performance, will not increase his chances for a shot at the title.
