Ugh Toney Tarver ..But I would Take Tarver in a UD ..Even though he was out boxed by Dawson as of late he's looked the better of the two .I say Solis gets the winner of this fight ..He Beats either man he gets some good exposure .
Solis was way better than Audley as an amateur! Solis is also 3 times World Amateur Champ and defeated Felix Savon twice! Audley never did none of that! Solis has'nt proven nothing as of yet but just give him some time and he will, the only thing he needs to do is lose those excess 25lbs...
A solis amateur star like Solis ( if serious and training properly ) should also become HV Champion. Let me give you an example: What would you think would happen if James Toney woulld have fought Odlanier Solis in the Olympics or in an World Amateur Championship? The answer is that Solis would have defeated him every single time. Why? Because Solis was miles ahead of Toney in technique and skills in the amateurs, and if he still has those great skills Toney shouls also lose to Solis any time, specially if he is 41 and outta shape. The problem is, if Solis can keep in good physical shape, something that has been his problem so far! The pros are a " mirage ". The pros are not that much different than the amateurs, just more violent, no headgear and more rounds...
I am so sick of hearing that ridiculous statement, " the pros and amateurs are completely different story ". That's very ignorant... You know what I would really love to see? I would love if they would make an Amateur Stars VS Pro Stars Tournament, 4 rounds with headgear just to see ( who is more skilled not who has more stamina or who is more violent ) and I am very sure that the majority of the amateurs would win against the pros! Well, so now Barrett has been " shot " for 8 years huh? RIDICULOUS. Barrett gave Hell to Haye 2 years ago! NO EXCUSE. Solis demolished Barrett like a child in 2 rounds, at least give Solis credit for this! Let's talk Garbey. It's a well know fact that Ramon came to this country to party, drink, and enjoy the good life! I knew him personally and saw him at the wrong places doing the wrong things. This is why he failed in the pros, not because he was inferior to your so called pros but because he was never serious about his pro career! Same applies to Jorge Luis Gonzalez and many other Cubans who have failed in the pros. You need to understand that these Cuban fighters live a horrible life back in Cuba and when they defect here they want to start " enjoying " the sweet things in life that they never had or seen in Cuba and that becomes a major problem! Add to that that the majority of the Cubans are " party people " who love drinking, women etc and you have a perfect recipe for failure...
Plus, I really doubt that Solis will ever fight Toney. Solis is #2 in WBC now and Toney isn't. Solis should fight Austin for the #1 position and then go for the big Robot Vitaly...
Miles ahead of Toney in technique and skills? atsch You need to actually watch some of JT fights before making bull**** statements like that. Solis only change to beat Toney is that Toney is completely shot. Otherwise it will be one way schooling.
I have seen Toney fight countless of times... Please answer this question: Why did'nt Toney win an Olympic Gold and 3 World Amateur Championships like Solis if he is all that? :bart The US professional Champs all suck in the amateurs with very few exceptions, and even the older ones who face the Cubans still lose to them...It's not a matter of age or experience, even when the Cubans are " young and inexperienced " they still capture Gold and Silver like nothing, while the US struggles to get even 1 Gold... The Cuban boxers are the best in the World and the most " technically skilled ", that's a fact...they have been the cream of the crop since 1959 but they have been locked up under lock and key by Fidel, just now is when their presence is being felt in the pros with the recent defections of the kids we have now...God forbid Cuba opens up, it's goodbye Americanos... Toney would have never won any major World Amateur achievements with that ugly slow counter punching style of his... :nono
Again, this is the pros, amateur accomplishments don't mean that you will become a top professional boxer. Did Marvin Hagler win a medal? James Toney is a highly decorated professional prizefighter, Solis still has everything to prove. "The Cuban boxers are the best in the World and the most " technically skilled ". This is just a rdicoulous statement, you can't limit technical skills to a specific nation. James Toney is one of the most tecnically sound boxers of all times. If I look at Solis, I just don't see any skill level at all. He is ^taylor made for Toney, slow, straightforward style, tecnically not very skilled, power decent but not Tua like. Even at 41, Toney will win an easy decision.
O RLY? How stupid are you? Do you even realize you're giving examples of why it's difficult to compare amateur with pro skills? It's like greco-roman and freestyle rasslin...two different rulesets -> different techniques. atsch
Barett has been shot for 8 years or so. He did not gave Haye hell, he got killed in 2 rounds and looked terrible.Even in his prime, he was never a serious contender as he lost every significant fight in his career. "I would love if they would make an Amateur Stars VS Pro Stars Tournament, 4 rounds". This is the pros, 12 rounds without headgear. Solis has not proved anything in the pro ranks. Nowadays, these young pros (Johnson, Arreola, Solis) are hyped and some people here get fooled by their undefeated record. Undefeated does not mean **** if you don't fight nobody.
