Toney would have struggled with Calzaghe

    oh sure yeah.

his recovery was better than his chin.
good chin too though, but not great hes never going to be able to keep absorbing them like Duran or Eubank.

The third McCallum fight was pointless.

The other two were close, and great fights.

    But he got the win.

Mike was still elite at that point.

For me, the win over Nunn eclipses any win that Joe had.

Yeah it was a good win.

But Bailey likes to pretend that it was the Watson version of Eubank.

Only a fool would ask if Roy had better wins at LHW, than what Joe had over Eubank.

Yes, Eubank did give Thompson two great fights.

But he had time to prepare, and he didn't have to lose a certain amount of weight, with only 11 days notice.

The fact that Eubank fought two divisions higher than Joe, just 6 months after their fight, speaks volumes.

theres no doubt that toney would have struggles with prime calzaghe at SOME point in the fight, but in the early rounds joe gets dropped more than once whilst trying to outbox the superiorly skilled James). By round 5 Toney has delivered the early flooring that joe was famous for when stepping up, only james keeps flooring him it because hes not slowing so and joe has conceded all the early rounds 1-4. Joe is occasionally hitting Hopkins, but it has no effect whatsoever and doesn't win rounds versus toneys crisp hard hitting and flooring joe.

Rounds 5-9 Joe gives up on skill and goes to plan B movement. Since the change of plan to movement joe finds he not not accurate enough to land when jumping in and out but at least toney is struggling to pin joe down. Joes not getting floored anymore, but he cant win rounds and he cant hurt toney at all when he does land. these rounds go to toney or are drawn.

Rounds 10-12 Normally at this stage joe would rely on the very old ATG/HOFer he is fighting to tire so that joe can go hell for leather with volume as plan C, but it don't work as well as with the prime legends since they aren't tiring. SO what does Joe do? His face is puffed sweaty and legs shakey like Enzos sphagetti but he aint gonna fall now hes trained ten times as hard as toney and for ten times as long. Now at this stage toney doesn't have the KO power ain the last 2 rounds, hes tiring too. Perhaps now on toney sits on his lead and joe wins a round or two. Its too little too late for JC. Is this when Toney stops Calzaghe? not in wales, the welsh ref will keep standing joe up and forcing james back. But outside wales, perhaps we might even be looking at Joe getting stopped by tko.

whatever the outcome, judging from the Hopkins fight we can safely say joe struggles much more than toney, but true thattoney does struggle too.

it'd never have happened though! joe would run from the possibligty of such a fight till toney was 40something.

How did Tiberi get on against Toney or Thadzi.

Im sure he was hurt, but he wasnt on wobbly legs and wasnt nearly knocked out. He didnt just hold either, they got tied up but Calzaghe had been up for a few seconds already and was up from the knockdown in 3 seconds

He defenitely wasn't nearly knocked out.. But it sure got his attention.:yep

One could say he probably wouldn't be as careless against Jones.. Salem had pissed Joe off before the fight too.

shouldn't be in the ring if hes suffering any kind of depression.

if he chose to get in not fully fit then that's his inadequacy as a boxer, not anyone elses. and tbh you don't know if the circumstances didn't make him stronger.

'divorce weakens the legs' that should have been in a rocky sequel.
