I don't see how anyone can pick this fight. Toney hasn't fought in ages and was absolutely atrocious in his last fight against subpar Batchelder. Rahman has looked similarly shot. Who really knows what to expect here. We don't know how shot either guy is or what kind of shape they're in.
Your guess as as good as mine, I missed the Batchelder fight for some reason, so I could be a little off with my perdiction. I am pulling for Toney, with Rahman's very weak chin, a knockout is possible in this one, I guess will just have to wait and see.
Doesnt Toney have testasterone levels of a 60 year old??? why is he still fighting??? imo hes done... id like to be proved wrong and he beats rock... but even then... for what? HE WAS NEVER GOING TO, AND NEVER WILL... BEAT Wlad Vitali Valuev Chageav I cant believe it when toney fans thought that... and right now hes continuing to fight for no reason other then $$$$ which is fine but he has a family to think about... the tests they did on him, the results werent good, and a structurially smaller man fighting big big men. i just dont get it... i hope he retires. I would want to see sparring of both before i decided who i thought would win the fight... because rock isnt to ME that good anymore and toney is just past it period. Usually, im down for a good scrap.... ill let slide a non significant matchup for one reason or the other... but in this case... i dont know...
You got to admit Kirk that Toney has never been stopped and gave champions and top contenders tough fights. Maybe once someone can finally stop him he'll quit. In twenty four rounds with Peter he was only down once and in the first fight he only lost by split decsison. If he beats Raahman he will be very much in line for a title shot. If he doesn't get stopped though I am sure he'll keep fighting.
Rahman walked through Toney's shots last time. Toney caught him blind with a flush counter right hand and Rahman did not even take take a step back. Maybe if Toney took steroids he could ..... oh wait, he already did!
That last sentence is especially funny. Maybe Goosen came up with this statement, and is crossing his fingers hoping Toney does not make him out to be a liar. But seriously, I hope Toney steps through the ropes in good shape. I think Rahman is also in a better, more focues state these days, too, so Toney coming in ready and conditioned will probably make for a pretty good rematch, after the dismal and uneventful first fight. I wanna see if Toney can get past Rahman this time, and finally stay steriod free ( or at least, not get caught). If he can, and looks doing in doing so, he may still be marketable enough for one more title shot.
It's funny how low the bar is set for "in shape". James Toney should not be over 200 lbs. He's only 5'9. Of course for him to lose all that weight too quickly would be bad too. But he should really fight somewhere in the 190's like Roy did for his one heavyweight fight.
Toney will probably never be back to the kind of shape he was in against Holyfield or particularly Booker. People will always give him **** about his physique, which is quite sad. In the two previous fights I mentioned he actually looked good. Toney will be in decent shape for him at this stage at his career.
I think about 210 would be the ideal heavyweight weight for James. Don't hold your breath though caue it's never gonna happen. And even if he does get himself down to that shape it won't matter because Toney is probably past it by now.
Rahman's chin isn't the same as it was then, though. When you're getting rocked against Taurus Sykes and Zuri Lawrence, it's not a good sign.
