I don't want to get on the "glass jaw" train or anything, but if Ken Shamrock doesn't fight with a good gameplan it could EASILY be Lights Out. He's got no chin at this stage of his career.

He thinks he is going to punch Toney while standing? Even in an upper body clinch I don't think it is a good idea to throw strikes against a guy who can throw punches as short as Toney can. This is old, far post-prime Shamrock's fight to lose if he does anything but look for the early takedown.

These fights are not hard to predict.

If Tim Sylvia stands with Ray Mercer, he gets embarrassed.

If James Toney tries to fight Randy Couture in the Octagon with no concept of how to defend a takedown, he gets embarrassed.

By the same logic, if Shamrock stands with Toney he gets embarrassed, and if Toney gets taken to the ground he gets embarrassed.

As I say, these boxer vs mma fighter match-ups are black-and-white.

The rules may have this one tilted in Toney's favor. Randy Couture is better on the ground than Shamrock, and Toney lasted longer than 30 seconds. 30 seconds is all Shamrock gets before the fight is stood up. In order for Shamrock to win, he has to submit Toney standing (my guess would be a guillotine) or he has to roll into a knee bar(which is not entirely out of question). Shamrock also has to this before Toney knocks him out.

If Shamrock is allowed to clinch for longer than 30 seconds, he may have a chance.

I'm going with Toney by ko here.

So, say Ken takes JT down, then sets up the sub, them rolls into a kneebar at say 25 seconds, nearly having it locked by the time the clock hits 30 seconds with James ready to tap....

Does the ref stand them up?

Does Ken get a 10 count if he's knocked down?

It says here that they're stood up regardless of position.

 This fight really is a pile of bull**** isn't it? So if Shamrock gets the mount with 28 seconds gone, he has to then get off James and get knocked the **** out? What kind of win will that be? Toney needs to get his fat ass back in a boxing ring to fight Antonio Tarver, this half MMA/half boxing **** is as pointless as it is embarrassing.

I posted it in the general boxing (so as to make the discussion about a crossover fight involving a boxer) but some clever mod thought it belonged here and so moved it.
