From Yahoo Sports............ Cagewriter Thu Jul 01 09:25am PDT Boxer Haye says Toney is screwed; White not so sure By Steve Cofield Not all boxers are insane like James Toney. When asked in the past if he knows how to wrestle, Toney quickly answered, "I know all that [expletive]." Well, he better because he is slated to make his mixed martial arts debut against former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champ Randy Couture. The 41-year-old Toney has supposedly been working on all aspects of MMA but another heavyweight champ, David Haye, told Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole that "Lights Out" could be seeing stars coming Aug. 28 in Boston. "Six months of training isn’t going to be enough." Haye said. "As a UFC fan, I know two or three years wouldn’t be enough. How many times has Toney sprawled in his life? 500? How many leg kicks has he taken in his life? 300? How many Kimura attempts has he defended? 140? Even if he’s done double that amount, he wouldn’t have nearly the experience needed to win a UFC fight." Haye sounds like he knows what he's talking about from experience. "I know from training in MMA myself that the wrestling aspect ruins your punching power. After a minute of grappling, your arms, back and shoulders fill with blood and even if you then find space to throw punches, your power is suddenly crap." Toney isn't a knockout puncher and he doesn't move enough to be dangerous in an MMA fight. "I hit a lot harder and I’m so much faster than James, and I couldn’t land a punch on fighters when all they wanted to do was take me down to the ground. James is a much more static fighter than I am, and is going to get thrown on his back immediately by Randy. I admire Toney’s spirit and boxing skills. But he’s delusional here." (Haye is dead on correct, here) Dana White, who signed Toney, is still torn on the veteran boxer's shot in the fight. "I said I would never put on a freak show. I'm putting on a freak show," White told ESPNRadio1100 in Las Vegas (3:30 mark). White was asked what if Couture loses to an MMA first-timer. "That would suck," joked White. "That's the reality that makes this thing kind of interesting. This guy can punch and everybody has a puncher's chance. We're doing the countdown show for that fight now and guys that went down there said, 'you know you see Toney, he's short and fat ... but he's got fast hands."
why is he wasting everybodys time talking s__t about James Toneys foray into MMA and not doing everything he can to make title unification bout with V-Klitsch?
Who really cares how does he look on a staged photo. He's turning 42 this August and even on steroids he failed to impress.
