This is how a legend deals with dirty fighters.

I was disappointed in Floyd and I honestly think he was disappointed in himself. It was an angry moment in retaliation to the headbutt and a cheap shot. He was in the process of putting on a very good performance and robbed himself of that and robbed himself of shaking some ring rust off. Ortiz was in mental meltdown though, just taken a pounding, then threw a load of punches and missed them all, completely frustrated so he butted.

I'm not sure if Cortez said 'box on' he gestured to do so but didn't say as much, Mayweather could have been DQ'ed if he wasn't. Cortez was terrible, he was completely anonymous, when he should have been controlling the fighters

As for history, Mayweather did the same against Mosley and Gatti without getting KOs. Some say Dempsey's KO loss to Flynn was the same thing

There was no cheap shot. I don't really see what the fuss was about.
Ortiz was acting strange and left himself open. WTF is Floyd supposed to do ?

One minute Ortiz is headbutting, the next minute he's hugging Floyd and stepping back with his hands down. He got KO'd. It wasn't a cheap shot.

    Agreed

Thsi wasnt a cheap shot, ref said, lets go, Ortiz should not have started hugging and kissing mid match.

Tyson Vs Norris, now THAT was a cheap shot

Mayweather shouldn't have answered the "hug" if he was going to fight on. It was a cheap shot and a dishonourable act. His antics after the fight did not make it any better.

As for a similar case, here's Joe Bugner getting butted and bitten and KO'ing his opponent without putting on an act to get a punch in:

"At the end of the first round Mike hit Norris with a left hook after the bell rang. Norris went down and fell so unlucky that he apparently hurt his knee. Even Evander Holyfield backed Tyson by saying that the crowd is so loud that it's difficult to hear the bell. Norris didnt carry on.

The fight was to be a no decison and so a dispaointing evening for Mike.
'Norris went to his corner without any problems, he must have hurt his knee when he sat on his chair'...-Tyson

It was an easy way for Norris to get out of the fight. He got his purse and was not (officially)beaten by Tyson. Recently Norris fought Vitali Klitschko and quit after about 100 seconds in round one , he went down after a ridiculous punch waited for the referee to count him out got up and that was is it. A disgrace to himself and boxing."

I enjoyed the whole event, what a great card it was.
I had Mayweather winning every round, the crowed were cheering Ortiz at times but when get get the nice TV angles we can see Floyd is not being hit. Too many seem to over rate Floyd getting hit a few times, he still lands more with better accuracy and often is dictating the pace. He had Ortiz of the back foot which is crazy.

Ortiz had been leading with the head all night and Floyd didnt complain then that big headbutt was the last straw.

Floyd did not break any rules. Cortez said box, Ortiz was not protecting himself.

Yeah, I concur with the comparisons to Dempsey-Sharkey..Ortiz was dumb to not "protect himself at all times". Letting his emotions to get the the better of him by embacing Mayweather..getting all touchy-feely" and forgetting that he was supposed to just be a warrior till the final bell. It contrasts with the attitude and approach that someone like Carmen Basilio would have had in the same circumstances. You know, "**** the touching gloves and hugging ****"..the opponent should be the enemy until the very last bell. Ortiz may not have won, but he would have better served himself by remaining a warrior and keeping his head focused on the task at hand and that was to fight..not to *****. complain and apologize to his opponent.

It's Ortiz fault for not keeping his hands up.....Floyd is a *****, that was an unfair response to the hug.....but he didn´t broke the rules....

It was classless, shitty, in poor spirit, the behaviour of a man to whom sportsmanship is an abstract concept...and 100% legal and above board.

As I recall it, Cortez hadn`t actually motioned for the fighters to box again when Mayweather clocked Ortiz, he seemed distracted by someone ringside. I`ll have to rewatch the fight but unless Cortez called time in and told the fighters to box again after the point taken from Ortiz this should have technically been a DQ loss for Floyd.

But in all honesty that wouldn`t be right, I mean what the **** was Ortiz doing being all apologetic and acting like his balls got cut off, going in to hug Floyd not once but twice to say sorry and then getting flattened after the second time, I mean for that alone he deserved getting decked.

Its a ****ing fight not a ballroom dance, the guy in front of you thinks your a joke and is looking to take your title from you and this guy ****ing HUGS him? he should have ****ing sneered at Floyd calling him a bithc after the headbutt incident and insulting him after by telling him to stand and fight like a man or something like that, anything to try and get in Floyd`s head and off his gameplan.

But no, Ortiz instead acts like Floyds long lost brother and goes all apologetic and affectionate after his headbutt, going too damn far with the apologies and then he gets KOed, for that alone he deserved to lose, I couldn`t ****ing believe he was acting like that after the headbutt, unbelievable really.

And is anyone else interested in starting an online petition to put Cortez out to pasture once and for all? This guy should never be allowed to referee a fight again, he has been terrible for years but this last weekend was just too much really.

The guy is in his mid-sixties I believe and is clearly going bananas, get rid of him once and for all, if I was a fighter and they wanted to put him in the ring for my fight I would come out and publicly tell them to replace this incompetent buffoon or there is no fight, period.

And last but not least gotta love Merchant standing up to Floyd in the interview lol "I wish I was 50 years younger so I could kick your ass!" ****ing classic that, I was laughing my head off and screaming you go Larry in the bar.

I`m thinking Floyd was rattled by all the boos at the end of the fight while he was being interviewed and he knew the Pacquaio question was about to surface yet again, and he could tell Larry was less than impressed with the way things ended, so Floyd threw a hissy fit live on air and was made to look like a douchebag of epic proportions.

All in all, an interesting night of boxing.

It was a dishonourable act that ruined an honourable act of two men bludgeoning each other with their fists toward brain damage and an early grave, to the mouth foaming chants of honourable, joyous fans, and also a massive insult to the honourable promoters who spent out of their own pockets to put on an honourable show
