    Best summary so far. :thumbsup

You are starting to rival Seamus for the "most miserable poster on esb classic" title.

I already weighed on this on another thread.

    This content is protected
over on General had this too say, and I think that he makes a helluva lot of sense:

"I'm sorry. I know there is already countless threads on this subject, but I just got back to the states, and wanna add my two cents...

...I honestly don't see how anyone can defend what FMJ did Saturday night. Protect yourself at all times? Please. Boxers disregard that rule all the time, because at certain moments, they trust that the other guy isn't going to do anything underhanded. What Floyd did was dirty as ****, and even he knows that.

If he was so pissed about the headbutt(s), he should have did what he did against Mosley. Mosley was trying to touch gloves, and Mayweather pushed his glove away, like, "**** that, let's fight," then punched Mosely square in the mouth. In this fight, FMJ basically hugged Victor back, then two-pieced him.

It's an unwritten rule. You just don't do **** like that. I think I once heard Lalia Ali say that in women's boxing, there isn't an official rule against punching your opponent in her breasts, but it's an unwritten rule that all the women follow. It's also like running up the score, walking across the mound, walking when one hits a home run...these aren't official rules, but **** you just don't do.

Mayweather should have pushed Ortiz away as he tried to hug, like, "nah, **** you, man,", but he didn't. The way he did it was just sneaky. Grimy. That was some grimy ****. Sneak attack hits.

Ortiz and Cortez also deserve some blame, maybe 25% for the both of them, and the rest of the blame goes on Floyd. I mean, damn. Remember how FMJ kept his cool during all the chaos that ensued after Judah hit him low? Why couldn't he do that this time?"

    Pretty much how I feel.

It was legal but a shitty thing to do.

–And why not? Once time-honored rules of decency are shaken off, the rest is easy. A world class fighter becomes something less than world class and sometimes something less than a man. The modern cynic couldn’t care less. He has declared himself immune to judgment and scoffs at any appeal to a dead morality. He exercises his fundamental right to do as he pleases and he has the whole rotten, stinking world to stick it to. “Nice fellows in boxing get it in the neck,” went one of Zivic’s zingers. Another one could be engraved on the Mayweather family crest: “The winners make the money, the losers make the excuses.”

I think I like this little paragraph more than any other in the article.

    Good job man. :good

Michael Spinks hit either Eddie or Johnnie Davis as he backed out of a clinch, hands down, to complain about being elbowed. In one of the Ketchel/Papke fights, Ketchel went to touch gloves after the opening bell and got dropped, leading to the now-customary "Touch gloves and come out fighting" order.
Ortiz deserved that. How many times was he going to apologize for something he did on purpose?

I thought it was pure drama and good for the exciting aspect of boxing. Other fighters have been glorified for doing what Floyd did. Northing wrong with it at all imo, I'm not even pissed off with Ortiz for cheating (and he actually did, Floyd didn't) because these things happen in boxing, fighters fight dirty, they are in there risking their lives, it's different to a footballer (soccer player) hand baliing the football,

Floyd did something dirty which was within the rules, and he did it in retaliation to something his opponent did which was dirty and was outside of the rules, that's it.

True boxing fans are becoming a rare breed.

Boxing history fans like what we have here at ESB?

The modern equivalent of a Yeti sighting.....

Come on people, it was the third time Ortiz went for the hug or tried to touch gloves. I don't like Mayweather much as a person but who is really in the wrong here? The most blatant headbutt I can remember seeing, and not the 'headpush' that Holyfield gets criticized for using but a Zidane style bull attack ... it was shocking. He totally deserved to get sparked out imo.

Although I would say Cortez comes out of this looking worse than anyone, wtf was he playing at? :-(
