Tonight ITV1 10:30: The Fight of their Lives documentary

Is that really him? cant beleive this guy fought less than ten years ago. Hes a ****in mess.

Extended edition fo this doc on ITV4 next Tuesday, if anyone didnt know.

 

I don't think it was that he didn't know how, more that G-Man didn't trust him.

The wrapping hands thing admittedly could be nothing to do with him, he may well know how to wrap but McClellan had his hands wrapped by Manny Steward who has a special technique that benefits power in punches within legal ways of course . Gerald i believe liked and took on board how to wrap the hands but not everyone knows how to do it Manny's way.

Johnson pouring water on McClellan's head at end of fight sums him up, clueless guy who shouldn't be near any fighters. He wanted to be a somebody just look at the hat he wanted a prop to be noticed.

 

That documentary last night just showed how much of a tough ******* McClellan was when he nearly stopped Benn 15-20 mins before collapsing, I suppose Benn got lucky that night.

Fighters wrapping their own hands is nothing new. Don't know why they made such a big deal out of it.

Steward might love that moolah (who doesn't) but he knows boxing inside and out. Like someone already said, you get what you pay for and with Manny you get the best.

Johnson was just G-mans Aaron Snowell. A Don King puppet.

Steward's main problem was he had to be the manager and trainer, as he raised these kids. It had less to do with money and more to a sense of parental entitlement. He treated them like his sons. That's why it hurt him so much when they flew the nest.

 

what did people make of benn's ped denial?

basically 'i was a thieving, druggie, thug who cheated on his wife but there's no way i took steroids. that would be wrong.'

personally i'm not buying it. i suspect johnson is accusing him of using because g man was as well. look at the characters involved:

****** - shot by a hitman, bumped calzaghe and others out of a lot of money

king - a convicted killer who has put two men in the ground. links to john gotti and the new york mafia.

g man - street thug who enjoyed torturing animals.

johnson - an idiot with apparently no morals.

benn - as above.

there are so many cases of boxers and other sports people taking peds to gain an advantage but we're supposed to believe this band of criminals took the moral highground despite the money on offer and the chance of being seriously injured by the other guy?

Calzaghe didn't trust anybody, not even his own man, til Dean Powell got involved.

 

The real damage to McClellan was actually done by Julian Jackson. McClellan walked through the same right hands that starched bomber graham for five rounds. Seriously, McClellan genuinely walked through Julian jacksons punches for five rounds and knocked him out. Even though Jackson was at 160 he hit harder than benn IMO. He had frightening power and McClellan and Jackson hated each other so McClellan stood toe to toe. That is where the damage was really done

 

Don't know if it was brought up before but you could see him blinking in that funny way in the footage at the Peacock before the fight.

 

The commentators in the Jackson fight also picked up on McClellan blinking towards the end of the fight. Some finish by McClellan in this fight btw.
