You're right, it was particularly embarassing this time. Yes, he's hyped a lot, and yes, it's annoying, but you can't be slating him for things that seem to be fine for everyone else. He's young, he's having a good run, he's got talent (like it or not). Does he talk a lot? Unfortunately, yes, but so does everyone else. Does he have dull opposition? Yes (although the last two were not bad, just not aggressive fighters) but so do most boxers at his age and with the same number of fights. At least the oppositions getting better every fight. Give the kid some time.

Khan was immense tonight, although maybe he should have paced himself over the first 3 rounds alittle more.

 

Or maybe ppl should avoid these boards straight after fights. Just be grateful that these guys are actually confined to their rooms, unleashing their blind hatred on their keyboards.

Just logged on now and read some earlier threads. I'm shocked that when someone suggested Khan could have been DQ or had a point deduction they were ridiculed. DQ might have been a bit harsh but he should have had a point taken away. It's not like the punch landed a split second after he was floored.

 

The fact is (hardcore!) boxing fans are the most elitist (and arrogant) sports fans in the world. They hate the fact that Joe Public latch on to particular fighters (see Hatton, Ricky), and, in a slightly juvenile secondary school way attempt to ridicule the average fan and their favourite fighter by going to the opposite extreme, and as a result will ridicule every single thing about the fighter and his fans (see Hatton, ticket sales).

Most of all, they hate the fact that Joe Public and their ill-informed opinions could fluke into being correct that Amir Khan is in fact the best fighter on the planet.

We say boxing needs more fans, but when they dare show a spark of interest we make well known that they don't know nothing.

It's daft, but I most likely do the same.

FWIW if it wasn't for the Khan hype machine I wouldn't have had anyone to watch Thaxton-Romanov with last night; instead two of my mates watched it with me. And that can't be a bad thing.

He should be ok. He's only expressing an opinion, no harm in that. He may be true with his thoughts on "hardcore" fans, but on the flipside, it seems to be the fanboys that often spit their dummies out. Anything more than moderate critisism of their boy results in bad tempered posting. They just seem to take it all a bit too seriously.

 

I'm just concerned where this leaves me, an easy going "hardcore" fan?:huh

Perhaps I need to toughen up on these Newbs and stop giving a 21 year old prospect a fair shake?
