Yeah mate Belandres is a pretty awkward guy no doubt.
Billy closed the show, which came across good on tv, when i thought it may go the full distance.
Should be an interesting next 12-18 months for the Billy Dib.

He didn't look terrible but he wasn't at his best, it took a few rounds to figure out his opponent IMO and took some shots that, from a bigger puncher could have been a bit of a worry for him, to his credit, he figured him out showing great patience as he did so. He then KO'd the lad who had proven in this and his last visit to be very tough. I thought he did quite well.....

Dib looked good round 1 but the other guy started getting some sort of shots off 2, 3 and 4 without winning the rounds...lets face facts.... he was one awkward guy to fight IMO

If you watch round 5 when Billy gets up on his toes and moves he looks very good and he took the other fighters heart away....that dominance setup the KO round 6.

That was the only fight of the night I had trouble scoring, but as previously mentioned Belandres was not the usual mail order import. Also was impressed with Billys conduct after the fight.

Actually, I think Billy looks better when he plants and throws. When he gets on his bike and showboats a little or moves back, he gets a bit lazy with his defence and gets caught a few times doing it. Billy also gets lazy with his jab when he is on the outside.

The times I have seen him in range, trading punches...he generally comes out on top. Because it makes him punch fast and in combination.

Nothing wrong with boxing from the outside like he does, but he needs to chose when to do it and NOT switch off concentrating.

It's obvious he has cut down on the show boating, he looks better already.

Belandres?...I think he gave up after about 4. He ran out of ideas and got frustrated that Billy was getting on top. He went back to the corner after one of the rounds (forget which one) and dropped his head. Had the look of a defeated fighter....and the end came soon after.

Overall I think their are definite signs Billy has had a makeover under Billy H and it looks good.

    Hey Contendo,
What are the plans of Billy Dib and fighting abroad, he seems to have fought all he can in Australia. Why doesnt Billy make the move to the US like Lenny Zappa, I think Billy is up to fighting in the US and is probably on par with Zappa.
Why not speak with Golden Boy or Top Rank or Gary Shaw to get a start O/S. He certainly belongs over there.

    Hey there SL,

We are in definite talks with Golden Boy, as recent as Thursday after the fight and they are looking at some opportunities for Billy. :deal

We had to knock back a fight opportunity just recently from them as it clashed with the committment the other night and we had already made that committment to Grange, as they had to us and we weren't prepared to break our already given word. :good

The right opportunities are brewing for Billy and it's exciting to see Golden Boy and also The Grange locally making a committment to support Billy with some great opportunities. Believe me, they are coming and it's all about timing and positioning to ready when they present themselves.

Billy's next bout will be on an exciting PPV show being put together by Grange Old School Boxing. :good

Billy's 24 and not 34 as I keep telling everyone. The patience wheel may turn a little slower than everyone want's, but it turns best! :deal

As I touched on in another post, you may or may not have seen Smutt, Billy copped a nice little cut from an accidental head clash and this, combined with the 'nuisance' value Belandres brought to the table actually made Billy have to just take stock and work through the first 1-3rds and you'll see on tape, he does make Belandres miss a lot with his 'bombs away' approach.

As I also noted, Billy H. and I probably to a degree underestimated just how awkward Belandres was and I kick ourselves up the ass a little for not selecting another opponent who was a more traditional/structured fighter. Our previous victory over Carlos Lopez suited Billy's style to a 'T' and the body attack and closing body shot Billy finished him with was brutal and straight out of the 'Hussy' and 'Skinny' Hussein mould who Billy's been doing quite a bit of 'extras' with, further than just his training with Billy H.

All in all, 2 fights for 2 wins to start 2010, we're happy with where we are heading.

An interesting point to close - You note about Belandres punching power. Billy did comment to me post fight how tough Belandres punches were and he by far thought he was a tougher puncher than Luevano or some of the more classier guy's that he fought.

Oh no I saw it, I just don't take in every PR post made by a fighters manager. As I said I thought Billy did quite well in this fight. I have seen enough of Belandres to make up my own mind on his power thanks very much. As I said it was a good win by Billy and I wish you guys well for the rest of the year, let's hope it ends up in a big one for him and he gets more of the Aussie public behind him

Geez I would've thought people would appreciate frankness!!! I'm happy not to post either and life goes merrily, merrily so to speak for all concerned.

And no, the last thing I would do is doubt your ability Smutt to make up your own mind!

Cool bannanas - as I said I hope Billy has a good year and an opportunity comes his way that he can make the most of. There are some tough tough champs in super-bantam to feather so he will have his work cut out for him

Agree to disagree mate....when billy stood still and traded he got tagged here and there...when he moved, boxed and countered he was great.

If he does that for 12 rounds who would beat him in the feathers?...Lopez, Gambaro, ponce...meh....I wish Chris V billy could get made :deal:deal:deal

Billy Dib seems a very different boxer of late. Having followed his career from the early days, I've noticed the maturity that has crept into his style, particularly in the past two fights, having been at both venues at the time. I thought he fought well last Thursday night and the card overall was one of the best I had seen for a long time. Billy is a bloody good boxer but I'm sure he keeps Billy Hussein's heart in his mouth sometimes (like when he drops his hands and begins to sway). What I have noticed though, is that this is a sign of him felling quite relaxed and more often than not, this leads to a flurry of punchbes or some incedible movement. Another of Billy's skills that seem to be missed a lot, is his ability to make oppornents miss with his flexibility and body movement. he may get tagged occasioanlly but gee, he makes the opposition miss a great deal. It's good to see him using more powere and having something new to him...patience. I hope it is a great year ahead for him. I have written before of him coming across as a good person, I suppose the way he showed concern for Belanderes after the fight was testimony to that. i hope more people get behind him rather than just have a go. Good work Contendo, it seems like Billy dib has a great team around him.
