True but i get the feeling he is weeding out the fighters lower down on the card to see who is good and if they loose he will get rid but if there good he will build them.
Shite night of boxing tonight lads but hearn usually delivers a bit better even though this is the first time ive felt let down by his big promises
I keep seeing this repeated as though its fact but it just doesn't stand up to scrutiny....who was being matched tough in the bottom half of the card?
Shinkwin-Taylor = Evenly matched Wadi - Clarke = Evenly matched (ish) Ochieng - Sierre = Ochieng clear favourite Thats not being matched tough, thats being evenly matched, theres a massive difference. So, out of 9 fights tonight we had three evenly matched contests (including the Connor fight), thats pretty poor
Right back from the show. Price for Ticket- £20: Good value for a nights boxing especially compared to small hall promotions that don't even have title fights and charge £15 more. There was some good fights, good names. Worth £20 but if i paid £50 or more i'd of felt a little short changed. Quality of Fights- Billed as London's Finest and we saw some of London's best in action sadly the top tier operators faced lesser opposition. Rotolo did try and did have ability but Barker was another level to him. Ward vs Hanks: Typical start to a show, talented lad is Ward and Hanks a tough kid but limited stopped on feet with corner throwing in towel. Ryder's Fight: It was competitive without ever being close. Ryder was the boss throughout. The mind turned very early to whether John could claim the stoppage. Liam Shinkwin vs Ryan Taylor: Very good fight i must say, ebbed back and forth with Shinkwin's movement and sharper hand speed and feet controlling the early to middle rounds before a late rally from Taylor. Both men hurt, crowd was buzzing. Rematch on Froch vs Kessler II?. I'd say yes please!. Connor vs Evangelou: Lively throughout but Evangelou just never got to grips with Connor's persistent aggression. Connor boxed really well IMHO and it was entertaining but you knew Connor had the fight won when he dropped Evangelou. Not a bad fight.. Purdy vs Rivera: Rivera did what he had to do and it was a worth while exercise for Purdy but for me with Purdy being overweight i'd of pushed him later into night or earlier. It was okay fight not horrible but i was glad when the end came. Groves: Pointless from a Boxing POV. Can understand getting him out again for Sky viewers but poor nonetheless. Barker vs Rotolo: Barker was class, Rotolo was capable but the levels were vast and Barker's in his peak right about now and that a few years back would of been a 12 round decision in a European title fight. In terms of being a main event i think it needed a card stacked with good fights to pass it off. Sadly with Jones pulling out the Purdy fight must of made for boring viewing on Sky and put more emphasis on the main event that was never going to be a corker. Camacho vs Clarke: Looked messy from what i saw, Left in round 3.. TBH March 30th could well put this wrong right but tonight as a show for me paying £20 i enjoyed it and can't argue it was good value IMHO but if i sat there watching it on Sky i'd of not been to enthused by what was put on tonight. It was domestic card in a big arena with big names facing lesser opposition. 7/10 for me If on Sky them 4 fights i'd say 5/10.
I'd agree with Groves vs The Argentine being that low . Groves could of had him out of there inside a few seconds if he really wanted to.
I consider you match prospects tough to bring them along. Put them in with much more experienced guys who have a good chance of beating them. Say Billy Joe Saunders stepped up against Andy Lee. That's being matched tough. Frankie Gavin stepping up against Senchenko is being matched tough. Barker against Martinez was being matched tough/suicidal. Competitive fights aren't being matched tough.
