i hear alot about him as being one of the best propsects befroe he went away, anybody know anything about him?
Tony Ayala was furious in the ring. He was coming up, fighting the "opponent" types, but knocking most of them out viciously. More than once, he spit on a downed opponent. It got to the point , when he was all of 19 years old where he was going to fight either Davey Moore (a 154 lb beltholder at the time) or Roberto Duran for his first big test. Then, in 1983 he assaulted a women in New Jersey, and he was on probation for a similar crime in Texas. It was truly nasty , cruel, sick stuff and he went to the big house for 17 years. Around 2000 , he's saying all the right things, he has remorse for his crime, blah blah blah. He makes a comeback at age 37 , pounds a few trialhorses, but gets his head handed to him by Yori Boy Campas. Not long after that he trys to pull another caper, but this chick has a gun and puts a dollop of lead in Tonys shoulder.That calmed the pervert down a bit, and he got sent back to the slammer, seemingly forever. Around the time of his release from jail , he was being supported by several influencal boxing people, but Tigers never change their stripes , nor do sub human ,deviant scumbags.
He was a very good prospect who handled Pipino Cuevas when he was a 15 year old kid. I tend not to look too much into sparring, but still, being a teenager and handling a world champ like that is impressive. He is scum though, and hopefully will never see the light of day again. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Yori Boy beat him up.

Never really proven, but he was absolute dynamite against the competition he faced. An animal in the ring, but a controlled one. Outside of the ring it was a different story Wasted potential
Is Paulie the son of Tony jr.? If so, it's interesting that such a seemingly nice guy could come from the genes of such evil. Cheers Tom
The guy was a good prospect, but pissed everything away in 1983 by brutally raping a young Woman in New Jersey.. Spent 16 long years in the Slammer, before being released in 99? but went back to his sadistic way's and ****ed himself again (i believe) he's back in Prison.. Bottom line the guy is evil and a twisted tortured soul, im surprised the guy is still alive..:-(
That's pretty much it. Probably would have won some sort of alphabet title at one point or another, if had been able to control his destructive behavior - but as with many of these unproven fighters whose careers are terminated early (Ibeabuchi is a CLASSIC example), his potential often gets WAY overrated based on what he actually did.:yep
Ibeabuchi was a legitimate talent that destroyed prime Chris Byrd and defeated prime David Tua. He would have at the very least gained one of the belts and quite possibly unified. To equate him with a relative untested Ayala is ridiculous.
I wouldn't say it is ridiculous to compare Ayala and Tua. Ayala didn't lose those defining fights. He never had a chance to fight them. From what we know about his early career, there is no reason to believe that he wouldn't have won (or at least held his own) in a career defining fight. Cheers Tom
