Also dug into this 'story', only to come up 'empty' too'.

What they did find, was Tony Ayala Sr. trying to negotiate a 'future contract' for
    his 14 1/2 year-old son.

Enter Lou Duva, Dan Duva and Shelley Finkel, who concocted a story about how
Tony Ayala Jr. man-handled Pipino Cuevas in the 'Summer of 1977.'

Main Events Inc. - Bob Arum and NBC went with it, and used that story to help
promote Tony Ayala Jr. - a kid with a troubling personal life.

I'm not sure whether it's better to be known as a 'liar' or a condescending and pretentious nobhead.

Instead of posting YOUR version of events, why not just quote directly from the actual articles you reference and cite the dates so people can check your work?

Or are these more articles that never got published, like the Ali interview you spent several pages posting only to reveal you fabricated it.

I would hope everybody would condenscend to a proven liar. I dont take offense to that at all.

If Im being a nobhead for calling into question Pepe's facts and conclusions sue me. I refuse to take anything he says at face value given that he has been caught several times making it up as he goes along.

If you choose to believe his posts without checking them thats fine but much of what he writes about I was following boxing at the time and lived through it, I know better.

I have also seen the mistakes reprinted in his posts, as were printed in the press at the time, to know that much of what he writes he culls from online newspaper sources and old magazines despite trying to say that he was a WBA official.

I've never heard he was a 'WBA official'.

Anything I've been interested in enough to get validated I've followed up. More often than not, he's been very accommodating.

Surely the debate he provokes, about some pretty obscure fighters, is a good thing for the forum? Sure, some of it gets dispelled but some info' is genuinely interesting.

I don't see the hate campaign, that's all.

Maybe he would have an interest in keeping it down but I never asked him if he got beaten up by a 14 year old. I just asked him if they ever sparred, give him a chance to put the record straight.

Tony Ayala Sr. started the story out,

With father and son seeing Pipino Cuevas sparring at the Main Street Gym in Los Angeles,
while preparing for hs bout with Clyde Gray, and Tony Sr. putting his 14 1/2 year-old son
in the ring with the WBA Champion.

Then it was modified to San Antonio.

Wasn't it just last year that George Foreman came out with yet another excuse for losing to Ali?

How many times and in different variations did Mickey Walker tell the Greb street fight story?

Why did Jack Johnson continue to say for years that he took a dive to Willard?

Why did Archie Moore until the day he died say Marciano got a long count against him?

There is a little thing called pride that most fighters have more of than the average Joe and that makes them very protective of their rep and often say and do things which fly in the face of logic and facts.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again: I have no idea whether it happened or not, nor do I care, but its going to take a lot more than Pepe's word (and to a much lesser extent Cuevas') to convince me that the matter is settled for all time.

    Facts are Facts.

Sir Lord,,,,,,,just what time frame do you think Tony Ayala Jr. was put
into the ring with Pipino Cuevas.

Pipino and Lupe Sanchez just decided to drive up to San Antonio from Mexico City,
because they had no sparring partners.

C'mon, you're not even that foolish to believe that.

I never said they were. Im saying you havent presented a single fact. My entire point was that originally you stated that had Cuevas and Ayala sparred there would be film of it. Thats the weakest argument Ive ever heard against something happening.

The number of unfilmed noteworthy sparring sessions (if there is such a thing as a noteworthy sparring session) outnumber ALL filmed sparring sessions in thousands to one.

I also took issue with the idea that had there been a sparring session between these two Tony Sr. would have had every reporter, cameraman, and film crew in the area present. Another ridiculous argument. This presupposes that Tony Sr. KNEW Torito would whip Cuevas in sparring when it was far more likely that he wouldnt. In essence you are giving Torito a backhanded compliment with this statement by saying it was a given that he would have beaten Cuevas in sparring.

It really doesnt matter, you can go on posting all the crazy **** you post. Some of it will stick with a minority who dont know better. Some of it may actually be correct (that which isnt seasoned with a healthy dose of bias and inuendo), and the rest will be seen for the agenda driven fantasy that it is.

In the mean time I will be waiting on you to cite the articles you mention from the Dallas Times-Herald, Galveston Daily News, and the citation for the "quote" you posted from Ayala. Im not saying you dont have them, but if you cant post them for some of us who like our facts unfiltered then I'll assume you made them up like youve been caught doing before.

    I know better.

But I enjoy Pepe's threads nonetheless for what conversation they spur on. I wouldn't quote anything in a piece unless I have the report itself, but as gossip it's all a bit of fun IMO.

Tony Ayala wasn't even the best amateur Texas Welterweight in 1977.

He was only a Regional 'Junior' Champion.
