The fight of the lazy but good ones, Lopez was better than Ayala in everything but skill, i can see an early war with Ayala taking to storm to later win a decision with a Lopez that could have won if he would have threw his hands
Tony Ayala, Jr. was truly awesome, he was a beast before he went to prison.................boxing fans lost one of the most exciting fighters ever, it was very sad..................I was sick when he went to prison................
Pre prison Ayala was hyped and high ranked, but examine his record and the only top 10 guy he beat was Carlos Herrera. Herrera was one of those high ranked WBA types who had never fought outside of South America. In sum, Ayala was a great prospect, but unproven. We know what a prime Lopez could do. We really don't know how good Ayala really was. Ayala looked to be easy to hit and without the best chin. I think Lopez would stand up to him and outlast him in a war.
Terrific fight. Actually, that division had a lot of interesting and tough matches for Tony===which I am certain Duva is not signing to take. About the fight, I guess a shaky vote for Ayala. Mainly because Lopez was the kind of guy that just didn't ever seem to capitalize. He'd have a silver platter in front of him and just couldn't or wouldn't either step on the gas or finish the show. So my rationale is some of that big time bodywork by Ayala--and he dug shots in there--puts Lopez in that Juan Laporte hang in there but do nothing with all those openings. I think Ayala has a big disadvantage in durability and conditioning against this guy. And he kept that left hand at his waist. I thought if the guy was ever in a tough fight against an A level opponent, just think how much further those hands and arms drop. But would Lopez throw that nasty left hook when the guy is dead tired and fading. Or maybe knock him down and then follow him around the ring for a minute and a half doing nothing and let the other guy recover? So I guess I'll go with another woulda coulda shoulda loss for Lopez. And then Tony Ayala would get shellacked by someone in a subsequent bout that jumped on opportunities.
