Could Duran extinguish the fire that was Ayala? Who had just destroyed #1 contender Herrera & appeared on his way to dominating the Jr. Middlewweight division.

Duran takes Ayala to school as he did to Davey Moore.

Duran bullies the bully, breaks him down..stops him in 8 and spits on him while talking about his mother.

How many more times will Ayala be thrown in hypothetical H2H matches...he clearly comes up lacking and on the shortend of nearly every thread or poll or listed??? I know he had what many experts and fans feel was great and perhaps unlimited potential!!! But based of what he had accomplished pre-prison I have not seen enough to justify picking him over most fantasy matches and this one is no different!!

Perhaps he could have grown into a beast, but I have no evidence that he could top any great fighter and that is what I base this decision on!

This looks like Duran - Cuevas to me. I don't think Ayala had the heart to last as long as Davey Moore did.

No way in hell Duran wins this one. Duran is too old and chubby at 154 to turn back the bruising machine that was El Torito. Tony would've punched Duran to ****.

With what though? Duran has the superior skills but everyone's forgetting Duran is the smaller man

Maybe, just maybe he was the stupid WBA's number 1, but even then it's a rorte as he lost 3 fights prior to Tony by KO to an absolute bum. The WBA used to come up with the most incredibly bizarre rankings, especially their number one contenders.

If Duran was in shape like he was against Pipino Cuevas and Davey Moore,he'd suck up whatever Ayala had to offer for the first three rounds, and give it back plus ! Roberto by middle stanzas tko.

Duran has the ring intelligence...look at some of Duran's lsing bouts at 154-160...Vinny Paz, Robbie Sims, Marvin Hagler....the only person that DOMINATED him was Hearns during that era because he couldn't deal with the reach. No way Ayala should even be mentioned in the same breath as Duran.

This was a fight Duran would love. A inexperienced guy who fights in front of him. Duran would look great in this fight and win by knockout in about 5 or 6.If you gave Duran the right style he would fight great, but when he fought the legends like Hagler or Hearns or Leonard or Benitez he lost to each one of them.
