Tony Ayala Jr. Vs. Roberto Duran @ 154 Lbs.

Hearns could hit Duran without getting hit in return, thanks to his obscene height and reach advantage, and blistering speed. Hagler had an iron chin. Ayala would not enjoy either advantage. (That was no flash knockdown Maldonado dropped Tony with.) Cuevas got off to a fast start with Duran, especially with his body shots, but to no avail. Going to war with the El Cholo who schooled Moore in tactics Roberto learned on the streets would not serve Ayala well at all. Tony's composure (what there was of it) would crack first. Skill, speed and style were the way to beat Duran at 154.

 

El Torito would become a Dorito for this fight. Crunch.

Duran went up against the best fighters ever and he did hit Hearns with a few right hands and Hagler also. He was beaten by Hagler and Hearns and Benitez near the same weight but those guys are great legends. Ayala was an overrated joke who never fought a real contender. There is no way Ayala beats Duran. That is fantasy. You might as well go to Disneyland and hang out in fantasyland if you think Ayala would beat Duran. Duran is just too good for an inexperienced Ayala. Duran fought the best and Ayala didn't. This thread is a joke. Duran would have fun in this fight. Saying Ayala would break Durans ribs is like saying Berto would knock out Duran easily.

 

Your ignorance of this whole subject and your boxing knowledge (or lack thereof) is a joke. Go back to the General Forum. All you know about is Ali.

 

Duran could look lackluster (Benitez) or just plain awful (Batten and Laing) when unmotivated at this weight. When motivated (Cuevas and Moore) he could also be a complete savage. My guess is that knowing that Ayala was young, dangerous, super-aggressive and hard-hitting would have gotten Duran's attention. He knew Ayala could fight and would have trained accordingly.

Duran has some rocky moments early but as the fight goes on pummels Ayala.

This match-up is an easy one. We already know what a 32 year old JMW Duran would do to a novice.

Duran was lackluster against Benitez because Benitez made him look that way. He lost to Hearns because Hearns was too fast. He beat Moore and Cuevas because they could be hit by him. Cuevas was 3 years from his best at that point, and Moore had 11 fights. Benitez was a professional and champion at that time. Duran did not lose to Benitez or Hearns because he was not motivated, he lost because they were too fast. Why would Duran be motivated for Moore and Cuevas and not for Hearns and Benitez?

Somehow the excuse is that when a fighter beats Duran, somehow that means Duran was unmotivated, regardless of the fact that Hearns and Benitez were much quicker than Duran. The variable speed is ignored. The excuses for Duran are unbelievable. I do think he would beat Ayala stylewise and because of experience, yet I do think Tony would have had a good chance to beat Davey Moore and win a title, which would have brought on possible big fights with Duran and Hearns and Benitez.

 

I think its pretty much established he was a beast, whether he could beat a great fighter is not.The only way Ayala wins this, is if Duran comes into the ring wearing a dress.Enough with this peice of ****, and mythical matchups.

 

Duran would fight off Ayala for the first two furious rounds, and then dissect Ayala Jr. en route to a fifth round TKO, ending the myth of Tony Ayala Jr.

 

Duran would have slaughtered Ayala.
