Tony really was a natural, was good a vicious, and was on his way to becoming very good. But he just wasn't ready for these guys. Had he stayed free and active for a few more years, that might have changed, but there is no way any Ayala that was filmed was ready for the Duran who crushed Moore.
You mean except that he beat Leonard.. which is something Hearns could never claim. You mean other than doing much better than Hearns did against Hagler? You mean much better against Barkley than hearns did twice? Besides that, you're on point.
Duran of 1983 was still good. The only guys who beat him were the elite guys. Duran would have fun with a guy like Ayala and use his experience to beat him up in about 6 rounds. There is nothing Ayala can do to beat Duran in 1983.
Hearns beat Benitez, a guy whom outclassed Duran. Leonard never outclassed Hearns like he did Duran twice. Duran never really hit Hagler and hurt him like Hearns did. Leonard never knocked out Duran like Hearns did, and who cares about Barkley. The guy was beaten by Kalambay,Nunn and Benn (stopped by Benn in one round). And had Hearns not been careless, he would have stopped Barkley via bodyshots in round 4, something all the other guys except Benn did. I actually think Duran would beat Ayala easily enough. it is a fight he would love and look great in. But he never could beat an elite like Hearns who had speed and fought the best.
Tony would've given Duran the most horrific beating of his life. El Torito was younger, stronger and way more sadistic than El Cholo. The Hearns affair would seem like a sweet memory, simply by virtue of it ending quickly. No such luck for Duran here, as he is backed into the ropes and mercilessly slaughtered by Tony Ayala Jr., the greatest, most talented fighter the Duvas ever had. Come on, people, think logically. Duran is a lightweight. There is NO possible way he wins this one, not at 154 against a much stronger and meaner tiger.
The difference in quality between Benn and Ayala is night and day. I don't know why you keep up with this hyperbolic fantasy.
