Watching his fights I think Ayala is a little underrated by some but obviously overrated by LAXPD

His strengths

Defensive head movement - like Duran and Chavez, very hard to hit clean for a pressure fighter, uses his defence and jab to close the gap
Technically very good all round
Great left hook, very quick, short and sharp
Timing
Good combinations and pressuring ability
Good but not great power

Weaknesses

A weaker slower right hand, theoretically if you can move away from his left hook he isn't getting off
A bit fat at the weight so I'd question how big he is at the weight, how strong he is at the weight.

Overall a very good package, how would it fare against Duran? Well referring to LAXs comments that Duran is only a lightweight, well actually I disagree I think he holds his own in size and strength pretty much. They'd meet head on looking to take the fight to one another. Duran would workout that he needed to set up the right with his jab, while Ayala tries to move to the left to set up the left hook. When they exchange hooks Tony would certainly hold his own in an infighting war. It would be a good back and forth contest with Duran's skill edging a decision, something like 9-6
