Had Tony not went to jail he was going to be given a shot at Duran at 154. The Duran who blasted Cuevas and Moore. I think Duran would have done to him what he did to Moore, any thoughts?

Duran in the time frame of when he fought Moore and Hagler was at his technical best, he was fighting bigger and stronger fighters (in Hagler an ATG bigger fighter) He would weather the storm of a fired up Ayala, but as the fight goes on Duran starts timing straight right hands...and he would stop the "baby Bull"...

Duran was ATG and already at this time cemented his legacy with his lightweight title reign
and win over Sugar. When this fight was made Duran has 80 fights compared to Ayala 21
fights and who had Ayala beaten ? Ayala was all hype. Duran slaughters Ayala in 4 rds.

Would have been nice if this fight had happened before Ayala did the crime that they put him away for .... as long as Duran killed or crippled him, would have saved that poor woman the ordeal.

Also, Ayala would have had to have gotten by Moore first.

The Duva's were smart - they wanted the title first, then cash in with a big payday vs. Duran.

If not for the boneheaded New Years in breakin in late '82, Ayala would have fought Moore in early '83.

He was ahead of Duran in line for a shot at Moore. Duran hadn't beaten Cuevas yet, and was coming off the Laing debacle.

He had already garnered a top ranking by beating the highly ranked, but unknown Carlos Herrera.

It's no guarantee Ayala would have gotten by Moore, but assuming he did so, I thik Duran would win over Ayala by comfortable Unamimous Decision.

Ayala didn't have the slickness to win this.

Tony would barrell forward and look to do damage.

Duran would patiently counterpunch Tony's wide shots.

By the late rounds it is onesided - as Duran can't miss.

Tony's size and strength and overall toughness would allow him to last the distance.

Duran too old and slower at 154.
Way too much power and ferocity on the young bull's side.
Tony easily brutalizes Duran in 4-5.

So you think Duran, who went 15 rounds with Hagler and massacred Moore would be beaten by a kid with barely 20 fights?

    ...very interesting viewpoint

Ayala got beat up by Yory Boy Campus. He would get destroyed sooner. Y Duran.

Exactly how I see this one going. And can you imagine the tempestuous pre fight build up with Duran exploiting Ayala's psychotic temperament ?

Duran by stoppage. Too slick and too good defensively. Ayala was good but untested. To make matters worse his style is not a good one against Duran. I would have picked Davey Moore to beat Ayala as well.
