Next we can have a debate over the unsung heavy w/ tons of potential---Lee Canalito. Remember when folks were buying into that guy? and there are still believers he could've made it to the top.
Well judging a fighter who proved himself as an elite operator against another is at least interesting. But making another fighter out to be something he never prove himself to be for the basis of hypothetical discussion is ridiculous, so yes, I will keep trolling the 'Tony Ayala vs.....' threads until they cease
I agree. Its easy to fall in love with a puncher who looks like a world beater against cans. This guy never had the character to be great. Mayweather would have outclassed him and beat him down from the outside.
Epps is a perfect opponent too. Tall, a big target, not much in the way of movement or (looking at the footage) durability, allowing Ayala to absolutely devastate him. I like to watch Ayala, and the 'what coulda been' is a bloody interesting debate. Alas, that has now been done to death and we are now supposed to see Ayala vs Jackson/McCallum/Hearns/Hagler/Tyson and think it's a feasible subject. If I'm told 'if you don't like it don't post' you basically say that a fairly rational poster cannot contribute to something which is essentially, a private fantasy land for a select 3 or 4 to claim that Terry Norris and Tony Ayala would beat anyone except each other and if they fought then it'd be a draw and FOTC So hopefully you won't say that.
Most of the guys you mentioned were far more established than Ayala. I wouldnt even put Ayala in the Ike Ibeabuchi category Fleaman.
Nobody could pick Ayala here, even hyperthetically, just not proven enough for someone like Floyd, even though I'm not a fan of his style. Comparing it to Norris - Leonard is bollocks. Ayala was never proven to be in the class of Norris and Floyd has still got a lot more in the tank than the Leonard of the Norris fight.
Nor would I. If you're referring to the Ike comment, I was just saying that someone like Ike, who never amounted to much in the grand scheme of things, can at least be nominated for a hypothetical matchup due to his fighting two decent fighters. Ayala proved nothing bar a one dimensional style based around throwing big shots. It just wouldn't sustain itself, at least not in the manner Ayala appears to be fighting.
We dont have to say it. My prediction about Norris panned out in reality Norris beat the main man. Mugabi, SRL, Curry, Brown, Taylor
Why not? Was Douglas given a chance with Tyson or Foreman with Frazier. The wanna be know it alls like we got at ESB putting on the same argument "fought no one of class, etc" Some idiot here is even saying the comparisons with Ike Ibeabuchi is an insult to Ike. He goes on to say "it took Ayala several shots to put away Epps" He said that out of ignorance that he feeds on, not realizing Epps decisioned the top ranked middleweight the year before. Davison the 6-2 puncher that couldnt put a dent in him he doesnt realize any of this because he has no knowledge of any of the fighters of early 80s era Stop listening to that bufoon before it rubs off on you
Mayweather would be content to shut Ayala out and completely outclass him. Projecting that Ayala could beat the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran, McCallum is absurd. The guy Ayala reminds me of stylistically and talentwise from around that era is Matthew Hilton. Ayala's handlers wouldn't have been content fighting the Robert Hines and Buster Draytons. They were going after big game. Ayala would've gotten badly exposed by Duran and stopped. Well anyway, I hate even speculating about the guy because he ended up where he belonged.
I'm talking my own opinion here, not listening to anyone else but I just don't think that Ayala has enough on his resume to beat Mayweather apart from the natural size difference. I see Mayweather frustrating him and moving. It is possible that Ayala would of went on to greater things and I'm old enough to remember his career and he looked great but I've seen so many fighters look great at that level that I can't say for sure that he would of realised that potential at the next level. I just can't judge him on what he could of been against Mayweather who I don't particularly like but can't dispute that he is a top fighter. Out of curiosity who do you pick out of Terry Norris and Tony Ayala? Talking about Douglas and Tyson, you've got to admit that Douglas was at least seasoned unlike Ayala. Who ****ing knows for sure how how Ayala - Mayweather would go, I'm just giving my opinion.
Mayweather planning to box and move to win this would be good in theory but not when put into practice. Floyd could try this, but in actuality, Tony would've been backing him up so fast into the ropes and pounding away. Floyd would be forced into a brawl and he's nowhere near as strong as Tony. And because Floyd is slowed by the extra weight, that and the trauma of being viciously hit at such a high volume would simply wear out Floyd and make him open to that devastating left Tony used to end fights so quickly. Floyd's skilled as hell, but doesn't have the firepower to keep such a monster off.
