I'm sure everyone knows who I favor....but quite a slugfest regardless, as long as it lasts!

Tony liked to put them away and Mustafa wouldn't be going anywhere.

If Ayala had realised his touted potential he might have defeated Hamsho.

But based on what they achieved, I would favour Mustafa to put it across Ayala.

Who knows, Ayala was a bully, but so was Hamsho. Hamsho was a much dirtier fighter, though. I think Hamsho would eventually grind Tony down and bully him to a win.

    Hamsho.

These are exactly the kinds of fights he won--when the public perception was with the other guy. I think the conditioning of Hamsho is highly underrated & it takes a lot to fight his style and go all those rounds. The southpaw style helps as well & I don't think Ayala is good enough defensively to hang in there the 2nd half of the bout and he becomes the guy having to absorb. tko9 or so and Ayala would take a major league beating in there before eventually getting stopped.

Hamsho would probably win a decison, I don't think he would maul Tony like others, but he's a step up in class, so that would be the deciding factor.

This would be a great fight and Hamsho would really test Ayala, but Hamsho was a mediocre puncher compare to Ayala being a big puncher. Hamsho was tough as hell but he wouldnt be bullying Ayala here no way. Ayala just had better overall skills and everyting Hamsho did do him Ayala would do back. Ayala had some good combinations too. Ill take Ayala by unamous decision here in a tough fight 96-93 over 10.

I think he would get busted up and I almost picked Ayala by stoppage but Hamsho was one tough SOB and over 10 id say he makes it. Over 15 might be a diffrent story but then again we never seen Tony go that long either.

:nono No i dont see that happening we arent talking Bobby Czyz here bro. I see that Ayala is underrated here on the classic, for the exception of a few others and i think those guys overrate him im somewhere in the middle but more kind of leaning towards their view of Ayala who had good skills,Very good power, And a mental fortitude to whip ass on all the top contenders of his time. Although im not so quick to say he beats up on the greats either. I dont think Ayala would have beat a motivated Duran at Jm but i see him beating all the other top contenders around at that time. That includes Sibson,Moore,Hamsho,Hope etc etc and the guys outside the fab 4 . He would have ended up being a great fighter in a couple more years if not for his self destructive ways.

Ayala would be forced into retreat here, and that's not a posture I see him winning with. Hamsho would take whatever he had and respond by coming forward. Tony didn't have the work rate to out hustle Mustafa, who holds two decision wins over mini Frazier Curtis Parker. Ayala never really advanced beyond the level of a prospect. Hamsho may well have been the world's second best middleweight throughout Hagler's reign. Different levels of achievement entirely.
